Dixie Chicks

Anyone consider that the birds being purebred, are just a little weaker genetically?
Like with overbred anything.

No I personally don't. I've read up a lot on line breeding, inbreeding, bringing in new blood for the same breed, pure bred. Crosses result in what they call 'hybrid vigor' ie sexlinks can give a better bird for that particular generation, and then a lesser result after. Some hybrids or crosses have problems of their own, cornishx have all sorts of health problems.
They are chickens, not dogs or horses or humans. In the wild they would have a limited genetic base. I've read pure bred lines of birds such as RIR can be ruined when crossed with someone else's line. I can't remember his name right now but their is a line of RIR that has been line bred for a hundred years and his are tops for quick feathering and growth and egglaying ability.

left the tray out all night long, and it is at 31%. Think I'll leave it out.

I appreciate it JWB. I figured some wouldn't hatch since I was having to learn a new incubator. Doesn't ale it any less aggravating.

You'll get it nailed, and then you'll be churning out them chickies... :)

That's all seems very valid. But there are a lot of careless breeders too... Taking poor stock and creating poorer and poorer stock....

I do think there is a lot to that... plus there just seems to be same problems within same breeds...

Marans being hard to hatch, pure CCL's are having hatch issues as well...

Mixes sure seem to hatch easy and quick for the most part... idk...

On the subject of shoes.... I have two pair. Both the same. One pair is in reserve for the time to toss the others.

They are ropers. Not steel toed but they are riding shoes designed to be around horses. Water proof yep Poop Proof yep. I cant reach my feet to pull shoes on so I cut the heels down so they look like clogs

ropers

I dont do steel toes because My horse weighes soo much I just picture her crimping that steel down over my toe.... I can deal with bruised or even broken toes but not amputation.

Deb, I think the composite versions might be something for you... and they can take quite a lot of weight. I think amputation might be nicer though, easier to join two intact things than to make something usable out of ground beef.

Believe it or not, but I love my steel toed boots. They are super comfortable. That or my runners which feel so light in comparison. The boots are a requirement for my job. It's just too bad I have to take them off when I go into the office side of the building. Tying those boots up (up to) 15 times a days takes a lot of time.
