Dixie Chicks

I have a head cold... head colds make me even more whiny and anooying than usual...

my quail haven't hatched yet...  I thought I heard a cheep, but I see no quail...supposed to hatch today, but I put them in late in the day.... so I keep telling myself that I should NOT crack them open :rolleyes:

And YES, or COURSE, these are hatched on order... so the blasted things better pop out of there!!!!  (and YES, the incubation was properly counted... did it like 10 times to make sure)

Also... snow AGAIN, and AGAIN it is snowing like a blasted blizzard!!!!  :hit

It keeps trying to melt, but the snow on the road is now a bit past my cars' ground clearance....  any minute now I might have to actually plow

Well, let me tell you, I WONT DO IT, SO THERE!

(arg, except maybe it would be nice if people could actually drive to church :oops: , OK fine... we will see how it looks tomorrow)

I'm sorry, I was too tired last night to commiserate. Quail, you need to hatch or you're going to have a very rude awakening to this world!

Snow sucks

Drink some how toddy and kick back. Or drink a whole bottle of nyquil, you know, whichever floats your boat.

And I'm still wore out enough I had to edit to quote the right post!

Morning all! Gotta get ready for work. Had a bad thing happen to chicks yesterday

. I have 3 brooder pens. DH uncovered one about 9am after I had left for work. (The only one that has to be uncovered). Said he checked all three for food & water & all was well. At 7pm when I got home I had 2 dead chicks, another 2 near dead. They had trampled each other, pecked pretty bad, and were sitting in water. The brooder box has an open floor and it has chicken wire top. I cover it nightly with a board, but there are still open slits for ventilation. Any how, some way the water puddled in their pen and it all went wrong. I know we lost an easter egger & not sure of the breed on the other. I'll figure it out today when I get home from work. The 2 that were near death is an easter egger & a light brahma. I have the brahma in a bird cage in the garage with a light. Checked on it this morning & it stood up and has drank and ate. Better than last night. The injured Easter egger was not as bad off. I put her in another pen where the chicks are a week younger. We also moved the pen to higher ground.

sorry to hear... hope all is better from here on...

@Outpost JWB :hugs
I had a similar experience this morning but no water luckily. I went out to check on the chick's I put in the brooder yesterday. Everyone's peppy and running around. Can not find my only wheaten ohiki I had hatch. It's a recssive gene in my birds and the only one I had. Couldn't find it anywhere. Starting digging shavings and found it, thought it was dead. Limp , ice cold, lifeless. Was getting ready to take it out and bury it and it kicked a foot. It was alive but barely. Put it back in the incubator and thank god it's trying to walk again!

anyone have a pattern for a chicken saddle?

My poor EE seems to be getting a lot of rooster attention these days, most of her back feathers are broken. Oddly, I only see the roosters do the deed with the other breeds.
