Dixie Chicks

Good morning! 6am here. You all stay up all night? Except @vehve . He's just geographically challenged

JK! That was a funny one vehve.

Woke up at 5am to get laundry & some chores done (and catch up on BYC

). Now gotta get ready for work. Again, it is pouring down rain out there

. I am SO SICK OF THE RAIN! Our yard is massively flooded. Once it clears up, we are going to have to put some massive French drains out there thru the yard. The puddles are so bad that we have 100s-(no kidding)-of tadpoles. The chickens have been gobbling them up each day during free ranging, but there are still so many out there that you have to watch where you step.

@minihorse927 , sounds like you need another incubator....

Those baby chicks are super adorable!

@Alaskan , Hoping the best for your hatch

. Crazy that they didn't mark them. By sharing your bad experience, I have learned a lot and will be even more cautious in the future.

My cuckoo marans are growing quick! I got 6 of them (all she had left). 1st time I ever prayed for a rooster! Looks like 2 of them are roosters. YEAH!!!!! I am very excited about getting those super dark eggs as well. I have one blue cooper French marans hen and one black copper French marans hen. I have got ONE perfect dark egg out of them since they started laying last fall. They lay, not frequently, but the color is not perfect. It's light and just washes off. The one perfect one was super dark and so beautiful. I shouldn't have ate that thing!

I have 20 dozen eggs sold (for eating) and deliver them on Tuesday. I have 14 filled cartons and another started. Every time I hear the egg song, I run out there and snatch the egg! The hens have been laying 2+ dozen a day! FINALLY! It will be close if I make 20 dozen. If not, I will put one of the customers off until next week. I would love to just sell them out of the house, but we live on a very secluded road. Ohio has super specific laws about advertising for selling eggs. You cannot advertise "Fresh Eggs", "Farm Eggs", or anything like that. The sign must say "Eggs for sale" or "Chicken eggs". Stupid rules. Many people around here either don't know those laws, or don't care and authorities must be turning a blind eye towards them because I see the "Fresh Eggs for Sale" signs everywhere. They have bigger things to worry about. You all have a good day!!!

@NotAFarm hope you just been busy miss seeing you Must have lots to do with the weather getting better... here is a pic of the progress on the masterbathroom...one wall is up ..wired, heater put in, drywall up just cleaning it up and everything before paint...
Jem, You are making great progress inside and out! I saw your garden pictures and your plantings look great!
It is spring and there is lots to do and clean up of all types..... and life keeps happening so time runs out quickly. This thread moves too fast for the little bit of time I have to be on the computer. I try to read 30 or so posts when I can but I never catch up and comments would be late for most things....maybe I'll just start reading on the current page and the two previous ones and skip the rest.
Have a great week everyone!

JWB, I'm willing to bet that most of your ancestors come from a timezone closer to mine, you just live in the wrong place

NAF, it's okay to pop in whenever you've got some spare time, it might be a bit much to ask to read all of the posts here, especially if you don't have time to check daily.

Ditto.

Sam, how tall do your peppers usually grow before they start flowering/you let them flower? I'm starting to see the start of some flower buds on a few plants already, I think I'm going to pluck them off as long as the plants are still in these 4½ inch pots, and inside.

Some of mine are flowering too
I'm doing the same thing, picking them off. I can't say wether or not its happened before with peppers. I've seen it on other plants though, it's a sign of stress I think...

keep your fingers crossed that I am getting my ancona eggs this week.

Should I look elsewhere for Cayuga ducks? My incubator is supposed to be full by the end of the week, so either ducklings or adults...

can't make up my mind. Maybe I should wait until I hear if the eggs were shipped today.
