Nope that deck is a giant pain in the ***. It faces south so it's too hot to enjoy in the summer and all it does in the winter is collect snow...

This is a bad drawing but I think you can get the idea of what we're hoping to have built...
Can't lower it because there's another house underneath it basically, my mother's basement suite... That's the other reason why I can't have the low sloping roof towards the front of the deck if the snow falls off their blocks her entrance....
Worst Deck Ever!

Thats the best of all the worlds for your roof line.... They have been done here with minimal intrusion on the original roof. Just need to remove enough shingles and sheething to make the tie in to the house roof. Then shingle it all when you are done. The deck roof itself doesnt need to be insulated so you could just build a false wall if at all between the roof line of the house and the deck.

Sam,are houses measured in square meters on square feet in Canuckia?

yep, like normal people.

though tatami mats are a cool measurement too!

Deb, there's already ketchup in the BBQ sauce I used for the pulled pork. Didn't need any more in my opinion. And fries are much better with dijon mustard-mayo.

just teasing.... I really dont care how you eat it. did you notice my meatloaf had no Catsup on it or in it?

I am not a fan of Dijon... I like it very sparingly on Corned beef or ham sandwiches...

Oh good idea!

@hennible
  my idea of adding a new story on the house is best though...  :lau

But I would have more to clean... But there'd be more room to bring chickens in the house :D

the top story could be a greenhouse.

I saw this one house up here in Alaska where they built a greenhouse on TOP of the house. TOTALLY brilliant! It of course had a good sloping roof, so no shoveling. And, since it is so high up, it always gets sunlight, and you can get to it from inside the house..

anyway, beyond marvelous!
