Dixie Chicks

Hi bama!

I've got pips in my quail eggs from ebay.

Not impressed with strombergs. I ordered 24, was was sent 27, 5 were broke (I think) when I got them. Now only 5 or 7 show development. The rest, when cracked, appear infertile.

Hi hoss: I have never ordered eggs from ebay. I have heard both good and bad things though.
I spoke to a person on the ice cream bars thread who was happy with his/her purchase of ice cream bar x ice cream bar hatching eggs. I guess its a crap shoot

you know I have never really considered a garden not even a container garden.... But someone on another list mentioned something called the Mittleider method...using 75 percent saw dust and 25 percent sand

I have Decomposed granite... not soil and was looking at doing aquaponics... But I like this A LOT.

Found a synopsis.... http://growfood.com/ Awesome....

WOW! I had to read about it.... because of the name!

That name translates to "sympathy" but directly translated it is actually "with suffering"

So my first thought was wondering how that applied to the soil, or if it had been developed in WW2.....anyway, it turns out it is just the last name of the guy who started doing it that way.

I just harvested some more rhubarb and whipped up another batch of rhubarb jam. And I looked at the peppers again, there are some more tiny little peppers developing already, so in a few weeks I might be ready to start harvesting. I'm thinking of freezing some, and making a lot of chili powder too.

The maters aren't looking too good out there, I think moving them out too early has really hindered their development, but we'll see what happens with them. The peppers that went out a little early are looking better. We should be getting warmer weather in about a week, then summer should really be starting.

The sawdust and sand growth method sounds interesting, but I think I'll stick to compost. The chilis and maters are all planted in pure compost, seems to be okay. Now I'm out of the matured stuff though, so whatever I plant next might find itself in a slightly hotter substrate.

My rhubarb is ready also. Strawberry rhubarb pie mmm. I like to make a rhubarb upside down cake also, just like pineapple upside down with rhubarb instead. Rhubarb slop on cornmeal pancakes is yummy too.

My garden is way to alkaline, which is weird because everyone I know adds lime to their gardens because it is to acidic. I started feeding my blueberry bushes sulfur something or other to lower the ph, they are growing like crazy now. I guess peat moss helps acidifi the soil also so I put a couple big cubes and a whole bag of that sulfur stuff and it didn't put a dent in it. Tilling hot manure, chicken rabbit, horse, worked perfect my garden is now neutral. Garden grows a lot better now.
