A first cross of a blue egg layer (one with 2 copies of blue egg gene) will have only 1 copy of the blue egg gene... the 2nd outcross from the first has a 25% chance of getting that single copy of blue egg gene...

I can't make a chart on my phone, but will see if I can find a pic to help...
ok think I got it so is the blue egg gene then a gene that follows male female genes? like the males carry one factor of the egg laying gene and the other parent another? so like dominant recessive thing?..........oh why did I start thinking bout this stuff now

Blue egg genes are carried by both male and female... not all blue egg layers have 2 copies though, but Cream Legbars should all have 2 copies each...

So female has 2 copies, male has 2 copies... each parent gives half of what they have to offspring, so pures will always get 1 copy from each parent and end up with 2 cooies as well... crossing with another breed that does not have blue egg gene means offspring can only get 1 copy and will have 1 copy white, so could pass either copy blue or white to offspring...

so what about breeding two outcross and both carry the blue gene? does that set the egg color or we still gambling the gene wont be there?

If both outcrosses have only 1 copy of blue each then offspring should have 75% chance of laying blue... 25% chance of 2 blue copies, 50% chance of 1 blue copy and 25% no blue copy...

does anyone have any automated systems with their chickens? feeder? waterer? lighting? doors? cam? and if so how do you like it ect? and if you dont want would you like to be automated in your chicken keeping?

I want all of it.... on the next build. up till my last flock loss I was feeding once per week and they were getting their water automatically.

I will have to do it all with Solar systems for Lights and doors. I will have three breed partitions so will need three doors so they can each share the run on rotating days. The guineas will be allowed to free range when i am there so they will have two pop doors. One will only activate if I am there.

I dont want nipple waterers... My water is too hard for one and it gets too hot for the other.

Egg collection will need to be passively automatic... nest boxes with roll out egg drawers. And I hope to chill those nest boxes with piping from the water... at least to keep the temp down to around 70 if possible. Easy to do if you have an aeriator to pump the water up and let it fall through the system.
