Quote: What are those things?

In Computer Aided design many people use a digitizing tablet. They are about the size of your desk top... the one your keyboard normally sits on. Digitizers are handy because not only can you place a drawing on it for copying it by using the Puck above to click on individual pints of a drawing but you can put an over lay that has programmed commands on it... supposedly saving time.

I used to keep mine set up to be used as a mouse. repetative motion is a job killer.... and you can define a distance across the digitizer as being the distance across the screen... IN my case I used about six inches by eight for my working area.

They are also very useful for doing illustration work and photo retouch... Kind of like pre programmed paint pallet.

The puck above goes with a Digitizer below

They are pretty much outdated these days... Here is one that is much much bigger

this is a combination of light table and digitizer Mostly used for map making and building very very very big things

or very small things... Like Integrated circuit designs... I saw a print out of an integrated circuit once... it covered the whole wall of a hall in the company I worked at with a fold at the bottom... when the Integrated circuit was finished it was the size of the head of a pin up to about a quarter the size of a penny.

that little gismo above is part of what makes our phones and computers work
