Beer, that's a good thing, Horse meat is delicious, I recommend trying it.

I like to eat 'weird' stuff that most people wouldn't, but I put horse on the same list as dog and rocky mountain oysters. I'm sure I would if in the right situation, but I am not wanting or looking to try them.

And with that I think I'll grab my dogs and hubby and head off to bed. It's a three dog night here... Well, two dogs + 1 dawg

Night all!
A good morning chuckle, thanks Peep!

Beer, completely understandable. But just so that you know, the taste has no weirdness to it, so that's nothing to be afraid of. But I can understand the whole psychological factor of it. Especially if you've been around horses a lot and see them as friends or pets.

About ghost stories... I do believe we had one in our house after we moved in. What we do know is that the person that lived in our cottage before us passed away, but NOT IN the house.

When we went to bed we'd close our bedroom door. Within a few minutes our dog would start to bark and growl at the door. You know the kind of bark that tells you someone is on the other side. Not a happy bark, but intruder bark. We'd open the door and the dog would check out the front of the house. Nothing. We played that game a few times a night. It was really creepy on the nights where my husband was not home. Two nights the TV kept turning back on after I turned it off. Then one day mom brought me holy incents from Germany which I was supposed to use up in the house. . Well I never did, it's in my kitchen but ever since the holy incents are in the house nothing unusual has happened.

Morning All!!

Wow thousand posts behind! Quick skim.
Horse meat and slaughter is legal in the USA. President Obama signed a bill legalizing it a few yrs ago on the same day he pardoned a giant white turkey on Thanksgiving.

Mornin.... its legal but not for human consumption. Horses sent to slaughter houses can not be used for Dog food I read in the wikipedia article below. and since the ban the opening up of the slaughter houses for horses I believe is still being implemented. The latest I have seen articles on this were dated 2013.... They are still being shipped to Canada and Mexico at this point.

I am only up for a few minutes its pretty early. And I spent time voicing my own feelings on the subject....

but Wikipedia summed it up better than I could

Still not legal to slaughter for human consumption in the US.... Historically the meat is shipped over seas. IN general horses here are raised with all sorts of antibiotics and meds especially older horses that may have arthritis. so technically they arent even supposed to buy it in Europe... But there are other places that dont care.

I shared a Wikipedia article and it has a table at the bottom that shows where the meat goes...

I don't think Wiki has updated. Obama signed the bill because the thousands of horses sent to mexico and canada were not being treated humanly, they thought the US laws were better I guess. I believe there is a slaughter house in Oklahoma now.

My house is on an Ancient a native Americaln migration route. The valley next to me is known for Odd lights. My neighbor has lived in the area more than forty years.

I have seen spirit cross through my living room in the evening... just sitting watching TV lights dimmed... and saw a woman dressed in native garb cross through the living room just in my peripheral vision. She stuck out of the floor about half way because the house has a very small crawl space she would have been walking on the ground...

Call it a residual haunting.... but I belive my land was a secure place to camp with access to local water sources... Springs well up after the winter so there are vernal pools here and there. Game would have been good too. Lots of Rabbits and Deer. Where my house sits would have been a naturally flat place secluded by rocks where look outs could climb up and get a very good view over twenty miles.

I have never seen anything scary... Odd maybe but nothing scary.

Probably but I suspect the existing rules before the ban were put back in place.

I am pragmatic about it all.... I hate that its a necessary evil... I think they could still tighten up on the humane transport of horses.
