Been busy organizing and painting the house awaiting 50 and another load of stuff from maryland............I suddenly realized with my mother passing and the house in maryland closing down trying to fit three seperate households of stuff into one...........purge purge organize and purge .........also saddly I see the beginnings of winter weather creeping up...trying to winterize the house along with everything...

Kairos is filling out very nicely, still has a bit of his juvie/adult molt going on... he's got the best temperament I've ever seen and I love him... he seems to be happy here too, follows me around like a dog chatting up a storm... :)

Amber -- I feel your pain! I had to deal with winterizing three houses in three different states and restoring them and prepping for sale or habitability after Mom passed. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.... It's just one of those things you've gotta wade through. You WILL get through it.

It's very cute and I love that it's open on the bottom like a chicken tractor.

It's been raining here. Darn pullets were SOAKED last night when I got home. They have SHELTER

They also have a HUGE dog house with pine chips and it's very clean (because they won't go in it).

@Outpost JWB yeah that's pretty cute.
I've got dumb chickens also. Have to throw the silkies in the coop at night when I get home IF I remember. Rained hard last night, wife woke me up at 5:30 as she was leaving for work. I ran out with the flashlight, one silkie inside on a roost with the other chickens, one finally got smart. Rest were outside hudled together, use to be white, now look like muddy mops....They go into the coop to eat and lay eggs. Hopefully they wise up before the temp drops or they'll be dead...

Thought I'd better check in with my newest updates, LOL. I feel estranged. Hope I didn't miss anything important.

Well, here is our newest addition: she was hubby's idea against all the mice. We've had mouse problems in previous winters. This fall we've seen mice outside during the day just running around. This is when we figured there would probably be a lot of mice again this winter.. bad sign....

Then my husband started the egg collection before I came home last night. He found this big egg in chicken coop (where we currently house a few Cayugas and Ancona duck getting ready to lay as well as the chickens and a turkey pair.

I tried for a while to figure out what it was, didn't have the smooth waxy texture my ducks lay, but way too big for a chicken at 81g! Even for a new duck layer egg, too big.

Took me a while and facebook post to figure out that the female turkey started to lay! I really did not expect her to lay at all this year. This egg is a big surprise, lol I just kept thinking, can't be chicken, the cayuga's would lay a dark egg, maybe Ancona but it would be way too big for that (have 2 more ladies that should start to lay) nor does it have that waxy texture...

In a row: quail egg, chicken egg, duck egg (Ancona) and turkey egg (Bronze turkey)
