Dixie Chicks

One of my Ancona lays green eggs. She's laid 2 double yolkers so far (one 111g the other 115g.) DH comment: "You should hatch them out! Like a 2 for 1 deal"  I did this on the inside of me::ya  but I calmly said : "Now? Before winter, before a big move?" Disregarding that these eggs had been in the fridge for 7+ days.
We agreed not to hatch anything more until April. But DH sounded pretty excited about setting eggs in April (although the ducks probably will refuse to lay anything for about 2 months after the move)
I think by me using common sense in my reasoning, DH was excited about hatching out twins. (I did not tell him about success rates, cuz: he's ok with hatching out more ducks!!!)

Don't rule out eggs after the move so quick... we didn't expect eggs from the Calls we got from minihorse til spring and they started up less than 3 weeks after we got them, lol...

Ravyn, I have brooded ducks in the winter (well March is still winter here

)... I'm not allowed to anymore
Lol!
I guess the spare room is not a coop...
I'm really want to fill the incubator... Harder to get away with poultry shenanigans with punky no longer in camp.

When I showed him the stash of eggs I found the first words outta his mouth were "you're gonna hatch those, right???"... this from the guy who is still complaining about Lady Grey having a night box in the house, but won't allow her to stay outside in case she stops laying... I swear, he's driving me insane... :/

Lol Briard! Your brilliant!
As is I'm not telling him about the two I'm picking up next week... Lol
it's almost winter so they won't be in the yard so much, I don't think he'll even notice...
I'm really set on a bunch of muscovy and they are not laying so I'll just wait... Grrrr
But cool thing, looks like 3 of the 4 babies are female so a pretty perfect start.
I really want a house bird... I'll probably try to bring the silkie in

Well, I was sitting on the couch the other night, dog to my right, cat in the lap and dh at this computer. So I said:"Hey look, I got room for one more".
The conversation turned to me suggesting the turkey. A male turkey has a lot of skin around his head/neck that could freeze at -30C...
DH said, no turkeys on the couch or in the house. He didn't say no to the other poultry or sheep.

I've heard double yolkers don't hatch, they die.

Naked Neck Turkens I hear are very cold hardy, hard to believe with that exposed skin, I imagine Tom turkeys are cold hardy also, wild turkeys are...But if you can convince him...Lol.

Alaskan, pick on me for the wife's temporary house chicken, we kicked it out, House DUCK!!! Does it wear a diaper? Lol!

Vehve, I think your right!
