Dixie Chicks

I wish our last freeloading pullets would join the productive ranks as well... They're about 7 months old now, and still not a single egg. Their sister has been laying for about two months now and is producing lovely 55g eggs on the daily. Töyhtis has started some little molt again, so just two layers at the moment.

Eemeli seems to be recovering from his beating, he has a very healthy appetite. Yesterday I saw some seepage on the comb still, but none today. The glue should come off in a few days too, and then his comb should start looking normal again.

A couple of the girls had ventured out in the front yard again when Karin left for work, so she chased them back (aided by the neighbors dog who was about to go for a morning walk). Töyhtis is quite the pilot, since the yard is on a slope, she started quite low, and took about 15 feet of height at the most, covering a distance of about 60 feet. She tried to land on the fence, but missed a bit and landed on top of the compost instead. And that cackling sound they make when they fly is hilarious.

Morning all. I've got to revise my feeding schedule. Generally they get let out at 12pm to free range until 5pm. Then they get fed and put up at 8pm. Issue is that since I got full time, branch is further from home and I get home 6-7pm. I get up by at least 5am, so possibly I can feed them at that time....not sure how that will work for me and them. As is now, we don't get to eat dinner until 9-10pm. So, maybe a revision of the entire schedule is best.

@hennible, I looked up duck eggs after ravenfallen posted her pics. The green/blue eggs are so pretty! Now, I want ducks....

Hope you all have a great day!

Nevermind... you're addicted, I'm crazy... :gig

Although, this might be borderline insanity... OH just lined up a new bloodline source of Call eggs for spring too... :barnie

One of my Ancona lays green eggs. She's laid 2 double yolkers so far (one 111g the other 115g.) DH comment: "You should hatch them out! Like a 2 for 1 deal" I did this on the inside of me:

but I calmly said : "Now? Before winter, before a big move?" Disregarding that these eggs had been in the fridge for 7+ days.
We agreed not to hatch anything more until April. But DH sounded pretty excited about setting eggs in April (although the ducks probably will refuse to lay anything for about 2 months after the move)
I think by me using common sense in my reasoning, DH was excited about hatching out twins. (I did not tell him about success rates, cuz: he's ok with hatching out more ducks!!!)

Ravyn, I have brooded ducks in the winter (well March is still winter here

)... I'm not allowed to anymore
Lol!
I guess the spare room is not a coop...
I'm really want to fill the incubator... Harder to get away with poultry shenanigans with punky no longer in camp.

If you can keep punky out of the new coop for 28 days you can set up the incubator there, yours is insulated, right? ;) "Hey look punky, We had a duck hatch out its own" It's not lying if you simply forget to mention that the duck was electric.. Make sure you say it, not she or you could be digging yourself into a hole later if it ever comes out

I am more then excited to test out my Brinsea 48 in 4 1/2 - 5 months...
