@Beer can

When my flock was in full swing I was feeding fifty pounds per week. But I was also feeding the squirrels, and the sparrows... little freeloaders... Oh and I am sure i was feeding mice and varous kanaroo rats.

I had forty chickens and twelve guinea fowl.

In better news, we found out today, I wasn't very optimistic, we didn't get chopped. Looks like NY threw the multi-billion$ dollar corporation a bone, or the tax payers did anyway, they were chopping us, now we are open, no closure, no layoffs, for five yrs anyway in the agreement. They are still closing one of the three slated for closure in NY, seven all together nationwide, feel really bad, sorry for those people, could have been us also.
I get to keep the chickens, I'm 100% sure I would have had to sell or eat them if I lost my job. Would have really sucked, just starting into this, guess I'm a crazy chicken dude, worrying about these two breeds more than my stupid job Lol!

Last yr I was finding layer pellets, in my lawn tractor, in everything, tool boxes in the garage, motor of the log splitter, shot every chipmunk I saw. This yr, over run with chipmunks and red squirrels, but I haven't seen any evidence of them freeloading off me. I hope they are keeping the rodents away....

Quote: LOL we have pack rats too... There is a nest the size of a red flyer wagon in the pump house... Little Bas...erd Is using Cholla cactus... The only way I am going to get it cleared out is to disassemble the pump house walls and clear it with a pitch fork.

I want to do treadle feeders if I stay with dry food.

I am still thinking about fermented feed and how to dispense it....

We've got about 200 kilos of feed in our storage, and that'll probably last us through the winter. Sometimes it's nice to do things on a smaller scale =). Oh, and that feed is for both the bunnies and the birdies. Although, looks like we might be getting a steady flow of greens to feed them all through the winter too. Our neighbor who got chickens a couple months ago has agreed with some store to take some of their spoiled produce off of their hands, and she gets such a huge load every time that she showed up behind our door on Tuesday with a huge box of lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and bananas. We might be getting a similar shipment every week.
