DCS is dead chicken syndrome. But I just noticed that the calcium bucket was completely empty when I found a cracked egg in the egg nest. Poor girl, I hope she didn't die of a internally cracked egg, that would be painful. Anyway, sprinkled some crushed egg shell on their feed and filled the bucket of it, so hopefully they'll up their calcium on their own again.

Ah, of course, DCS... if it was an egg broke internally, there would probably have been leakage of it out the vent... running out of calcium supplement once really shouldn't have been that big an issue, so don't think it was anything you did...

Well I remember it being out a couple of weeks ago already, but since Karin was talking about it, I assumed she filled it. Sure, the chickens get egg shells fed back to them too, so it's not that bad, but since we mix our own feed there's basically no calcium in the feed itself. I have to be more vigilant in the future.

All of my roosters popped of crowing this morning. At 2:47am:th. I went out to see if the hens were freaking out, but all appears ok. They normally start crowing at 5am when they see me moving around in the house.

I've got eight roosters between two coops, they seem two crow way to early. They crowed all night long Christmas eve with the full moon. Coops are about 75yrds apart, I think if one let's out one crow it turns into a contest between the coops. I think it might be why the hens are still fine with so many boys, and the boys seem to get along, up all night 'partying' don't have excess energy during the day. Culling four of them tomorrow and a few hens, crappy or maybe non layers.

Wow to you @RavynFallen crazy woman.. Hatching in December!

I think that I have two more weeks .... Then pure eggs, I think, hack, maybe.... Whatever, maybe I will wait three more.

Them I shall start hatching EEs... Why only EEs you ask? Because all pure fancy bred chickens suck rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only good layers I have are the EE, best one hatched out three eggs this summer. The best constant every day layers are the 'alien chickens' silkies, is that weird or what?
I have to do some culling in the big coop to make room for either the giants or sussex, need to get them separated, someone started laying eggs, and I havn't built the nest boxes on the small coop yet...It'll be a couple months yet, then I'll be incubating for the first time...
