secret to get the stink out? easy peasy....

stretch the net out flat and let the sun do it. Even if its not sunny out UV gets through. Couple of weeks.... all better... Not perfect but enough.

Some of the fishing forums talk about caring for a landing net by washing it in soapy water and hanging outside on a line (so yeh, sunny place to kill germs) to dry, but the general consensus is they LIKE the smell of fish... Sunlight works good on dog scent retrieval items...but these used fishing nest...Icrumba.

The Fisheries ones where horrid. Would not bother the fish you were fishing for...the smell of their kindred brethren's parts might even attract them.

Dunno but I would use NEW net if given the best choice of kinds...nasty nasty used ones!

No bears on the little island, but that fishy smell would attract the coons i imagine.

New might be the way to go.... not that expensive either especially compared to wire

I'll definitely shop around before I put something up.

I don't plan to leave the catch in the net...:lau

I have a bunch of free nets, the older cotton ones, and new plastic who knows what.

None of them smell. :idunno

When you first pick them up out of the pile, they might smell a bit, but like Deb said, once they are stretched out and rained on and aired out they are perfectly fine.

But maybe it is also because it is so cold up here? Stuff doesn't stink as much in the cold.

Al, he had blood caked up in the nostrils. Probably more of an issue with chickens, as the comb is a good target in a fight, and has loads of blood flow, but something to keep an eye out for if your birds are hurt and don't want to eat.

All of his blood was on his neck and breast.

And I have found that very beat up animals will often eat and drink very little the first few days, simple because they are so bruised, in pain, and recovering from the trauma. And no, I don't think giving them pain meds would be good, since moving about would slow down healing.

Deb, time to make soup, or a pot of beans, so you have something boiling on the stove to keep the air moist. Dry air gives me a headache too.

humidity is coming down... I have legs and thighs sprinkled with Mexican Adobo seared off for color then popped in the oven with about a half inch of Orange juice....

I wanted to do Oz' recipe but needed it to get in the pot NOW. One day though. He has an awesome one, with coconut milk and everything.
