Found my other girls nest today, she has 11 eggs... I see no way all hers will hatch though, they are very dirty... Dirtier than the average duck egg layed on the coop floor. Her nest is right by my moms entrance, nice and safe... Can't wait until mom steps in her first broody poop

Just returned from the hardware store. Bought 120 feet of electric tubing to make the roof line supports with, 60 feet of 2x2s and 50 feet of decking, putting the total cost of our greenhouse at 87 euros. Not taking into account the poles I stole from the neighbor, and the plastic we already have, and the screws I'm going to use, but if I would, I think this thing could be built for about 140 euros. A similar sized commercial one would go for about a grand here. I shouldn't celebrate yet though, I still have to put this together.

All went well yesterday. Good food, good friends. Everyone wanted to see the chickens:D.

Back to school and back to work for us today. Chicks are doing good now since I divided and put them in bigger spaces. Picky chicks. They get bored and feel the need to eat their friends. :th

JWB, Mpnday isn't a holiday there?

Well, here's what I'm working with. Now I'm at a point where I need to clear some debris from where we're placing it. I already settled an argument with a tree stump by using my trusty Fiskars axe, but those tree rocks are a bit problematic. Right next to where it sits would be a nice level spot, but the bunny hutch would shadow it most of the day, so we can't place it anywhere else. The middle rock has some give in it, so that one I'll probably get out, but the two others are about three times as big as what can be seen above the ground, so I'm just going to call them heat sinks, and silently curse every time they're in the way. The heat sink theory might actually be beneficial for real too though.

Turns out this thing was only a bit over 10 feet and not 11, but it should be plenty big.

The top part measures just over 5 feet, so I made some risers out of wood that'll take it to 7'8", hopefully giving me some headroom in there.

I put together both sides of this thing, but before I can attach it to the frame and put the ends in place, I'll need to get whatever rocks I can cleared out of the spot, and making it almost level will probably be a good idea too. I'm working with all kinds of scraps I've got laying around, as well as whatever I had to buy new, so I'm not too worried about making things overly pretty.

We're going to head to my parent's place to eat soon, so no more work on this today, and since I start my new job tomorrow I probably won't have a chance before next weekend, but I'm hoping to get it finished then. Once I've prepared the ground this should come together in about half an hour, plus I need to put in the wind braces in the ends and place the electrical tubing before I can attach the plastic, but that shouldn't take more than a day.

Ok, I gotta know... did Beer ever run down that dang chicken???

No...Lol. Decided just to let him continue free ranging, been over a month now, eating good green stuff bugs worms and grubs, and exercising those muscles. He looks pretty cold some nights perched outside on a cement block next to our kitchen window, bet it keeps him safe at night, better than sleeping in the woods. Wife was hoping I chopped his head off this weekend when I got rid of the two red sussex cockerels (not keeping that breed, both just shy of five lbs dressed and anemic breasts). Wife was hoping I processed xtra giant also, sick of him crowing next to the house, underneath bedroom bedroom windows well before daylight, Lol!
Going to capture him next week, put him in small chick coop and run, sock the corn and whey from work to him for a week then process.

Didn't get very far on 'greenhouse'. Negotiations fell apart, looking like it's going to cost way more than $50.
Wife (boss) made the call yesterday, said she wants it gone, let me pick up parts yesterday. Was comparing $ of chain link fencing 10'ers to pvc, 'boss' realized I was planning 20' long, "well heell yeeah! Full blown greenhouse!", decision was made, it's going to be 10' long, bought pvc and plastic. Tore it apart last night before dark. Looking like it's going to be sizable. At 14' wide it's over my head tall, old storm screen door we took off house last year will be perfect for a door. Pics when it starts taking shape, raining today.

Looks like I should have just gave her $50. Looks like she might be the primary driver of the ford escort zx2 I bought last fall to save gas traveling to work, have to replace transmission I ruined first though. She seems to think the car is hers anyway. I did buy it for her to drive so she didn't have to drive the giant Suburban or my junky minivan, but for occasional driving, was going to be MY car. I realized this winter she thinks it's hers when she was hounding me to fix it, she said she saved some money and if she sold the car she would have enough to buy a different one if I wasn't going to fix it....huh? you can't sell MY car!...When I complain about her driving the Suburban, racking up miles, wasting gas, "well you shouldn't have ruined my car" IT'S NOT YOURS!!!!
ha ha she says, like I'm freaking joking or something. I obviously didn't beat her enough when she was little...
