I dont think I can do roachs I spent so many years trying to live roach free in texas it has become ingrained roach bad lol

rather discuss stuff here instead of everywhere under the sun .....plus some places you just get hostility when you bring up different ways of thinking of stuff .............I dislike feeling like I have to tenderfoot it around topics because of some social expectation of thinking...

I made the mistake once of bringing up processing chickens.. wow I felt like a total heel after ..was a very chicken are pets kind of mentality..who knew...

I had thought about the black fly thing and the maggot buckets but I dunno kinda grossness to me not sure.. seen some awesome ways to hanga bucket and the worms drop out and the chickens gobble em up though

I prefer discussing stuff here and on the few other threads I belong to... and am very careful with my words on outside threads till I am certain they are like minded... like using Freezer camp or Dispatching rather than the more graphic but more appropriate terms...

When I get lam blasted about processing or ways to kill a chicken I remind them that as part of Good animal husbandry you need to know these skills... For the well being of the flock and to ease the suffering of an individual.... I keep it clinical if I can.

I have spoken here about being able to humanely dispatch my horse if I have to... If I were on some of the horse forums I have belonged to in the past they would have been horrified. just shrug it off... and drop the subject rather than trying to prosthelytize... or convert and convince them.... it falls on deaf ears.

I also realize I have certain prejudices over some things and try to keep it separate from the rest of the discussions going on. Everyonce and a while I make my stance clear then I drop the subject.... Horse meat is one... pretty benign....

But I was once on one thread that was very religious in nature. I felt the need to explain that I was not a Christian and the hope that everyone would understand if I didin't offer a prayer... I offer good thoughts and big hugs and hopes and cares.... I was surprised at the acceptance....

Like I said I dont offer to prosthelytize.... but I do offer information as I know it...

This is the only video I have ever posted to YouTube or BYC. My Icelandic flock does a great job of foraging in the pile but it is too big for them to "turn" properly. My neighbor stops by with his tractor and pushes it around for me. I've heard of a company in the northeast that uses chickens to turn compost and gathers their eggs.....double duty for them!
how kewl didnt realize was YOUR chickens awesome!! I cant figure out how to upload to utube lol ahh well I just upload my vidos on facebook ... I wonder if it is the same researcher I was looking at I cant recall where it was done at...but they were composting and the chickens were free ranged in the compsot piles it was how they were being fed almost exclusively if not exclusivly was some pretty interesting stuff how they were even going after the mycelium that was devloping in the compsot and everything..

the horse meat was a convo I steered well clear of LOL..but it did inspire much thinking at home about it lol but yeah I agree there is a differnce in sharing your experiences then trying to browbeat someone to convert them to yoru thinking...I'm very much of the mindset if it causes no harm then no foul........... it just is it's different how I might do things or think of things but sure doesnt make it bad just different.......and you never know things ppl do you would never do or think something in that process might be something you WOULD do or use or think because it "matchs for you.. if you dont open yourself up to possibilities all your possibilities are narrow...

I'm leery of Maggitt buckets because there's a link of course between make it some botulism... But then again there are links between mealworms and Marecks disease...
I spelled that wrong...

Yep I heard that about Marecks (correct spelling).... Soldier flies are a bit different than regular flies....

If you looked at them on a lief you might think they were a wasp.... the article above explains their benefit beyond what I can say.

I'm only talking about chickens for now on! I think I helped, never mind just think chickens.
I forgot I had a digital scale, how do you weight eggs? In grams? That one was 84grams is that big?

I feel the same.

Was thinking they would fix it....but whatever. @Amberjem fixed it!

I start my 7 day work stretch tomorrow. Then I have 7 days of VACATION! YEAH! I am going to post 1,000 posts! That is my goal for my vacation. LOL!

Lasagna is in the oven. Headed out to feed the chickens again. Ever since I took all the advice you guys gave me to feed them more, they are much happier, look healthier, and they are popping out eggs like crazy. Yesterday we got 30 eggs! That is an all time record for us. We had enough egg money to cover their feed and the 2 new bunnies water bottles. They seem happy and for now we have 2 bunnies in each cage. But they will be separated as soon as we get the new hutches made. They are so cuddly! Not sure how I am going to butcher them....

. I only almost cried once on a butcher day when I had to butcher the most beautiful rooster ever. He was gorgeous. He was just meaner than a rattlesnake! So I didn't want to breed that stock.

The snow has not melted. We still have a backyard full of snow angels and hearts drawn by little girls feet

. Well, out to see the chickens & rabbits. I'll try to get pics. I know I keep saying that, Uhhhhh, I never take my cell back there.
