Dixie Chicks

Hi... I havent hatched in a couple of years now.... but here is a pix of my pullet Guinea eggs hatching. I had three out of five hatch. The blue eggs in there were Auracana pullet eggs... I put em in all at the same time and put them all on lockdown at the same time timed for the Chicken eggs to hatch. I just left everything as it was for the next week for the Guinea Eggs to hatch. No turning for those guineas for almost ten days.

I wound up with two Perl Hens and one Royal purple cock.... Guinea Males are called Cocks not roos.

For what its worth Guinea Keets take 28 days to hatch and rquire higher humidity on lock down. Those shells are soo hard you have to crack them with the handle of a knife if you want to cook with them.

I found those eggs scattered about the coop sitting in full sun on a 90 degree day.... Guineas rarely make nests in the wild they lay their eggs in an area of downed brush sticks in a scrape out of dirt. They lay em and leave em till there are a bunch often times forty or more then one hen will decide to brood.

When I get things setup I am planning on trying to duplicate that environment in the coop for laying. we will see if it works. If not I will have to figure out something else. PeepsCA is a guinea breeder here and the way she does it is she keeps em all locked in till they lay their eggs then they get to go out to free range. She says hers (she is in northern Claifornia) are done laying by about two in the afternoon.

Then I will turn them out and collect eggs...

Guinea eggs are interesting besides their hard shells their egg yolk is huge compared to the white.... Great for high protien diets...
