keets also watch dogs can be used instead of a rooster for some... I had thought about getting some but have heard they are really niosy ...but gosh they sure are purrrdy

What do people keep guineas for? is it meat, eggs,...?

the eggs are small and almost perfectly tear shaped... about the size of a large bantam egg. They have almost a full sized yolk though. Very little white. But fried up very tasty....

The meat from Guineas is much like pheasant.... lean and just about all dark meat.... So it needs to be cooked like wild game. There are a few restaurants here in town who profess to be localvore oriented. If I can get the processing down correctly I hope to sell through a co-op.

The other thing with Guineas is interest in their feathers. You can sell a whole pelt for 20 bucks to fly tyers. Again depending on how well the pelt is preserved. I plan to can some meat so that would be a good opportunity for skinning rather than plucking.

VERY noisy. I am on eighteen acres and my nearest visible neighbor is a thousand feet away. I love their constant chatter and even their yelling. But they do sleep at night. not like Peacocks....

I had the pearl gray guineas, would like to get some again, but they are not cheap.

they run about the same as chickens.... Ralph Winter is the biggest breeder in the US. And has just aobut the largest selection of colors. He doesnt farm them out either. And you can request pinioning if you want to keep breeding stock at home. Big responsibility though because they are defensless.

He has the longest time of availabilty of keets too. He also sells hatching eggs. I am hoping to get some jumbo eggs from him eventually.
