Dixie Chicks

I'll use the bigger ones to make the plum tree bed a bit higher. it's a bit low at the moment.

This pic is from last year.

I don't know what we'll do with the smaller ones yet, but I'm sure I can think of something. They are quite pretty. One idea would be to make stone pots, put a plastic pot on the inside, and make a larger shape from chicken wire on the outside and fill the space in between with rocks. The rocks are mostly round, so you can't really stack them without a lot of concrete or plaster.

@vehve

Can those REALLY all be cockerels? Even though they came out different colors???

ARG!!

My hatchabatch app lied to me.... :barnie and :he and some :hit

I am not sure why I didn't double check the counting that the app did.... But I didn't.

So, it TOLD me that hatching quail was imminent.. So I way upped the humidity..... Still no quail yesterday... Which is odd, quail dont tend to be late...

So I counted... Quail are supposed to hatch Friday.. Tomorrow...

I am worried that I drowned them all........

I tried candling 2 or 3 this morning... A bit hard to see past the spots all over the eggs... But they didn't look promising...

I was thinking of taking out the water... But I don't know what would be best... I left it in... :hit

I did that during the nyd hatch a long... Everyone was saying "lock down" and I locked down a day or 2 and bit early ( I had set late ) I got lucky they still hatched... Dang Alaskan that blows.... Stupid app...

Al, did you weigh them? That would be the best indicator for evaporation. Personally, without much experience, if I would use an incubator now, I wouldn't bother with a hygrometer, I'd just monitor the weight and I wouldn't up the humidity before external pipping is visible. Just my 0.02 (EUR).

And yeah, I'm pretty sure they're all boys, the combs were all red at 6-7 weeks already. They're Marans hybrids, come from a flock with both cuckoo and wheatens.

I weighed the first few hatches last year.... And now that I know how that room runs... I am good, can go by feel.....

I incubate with a very low humidity... So I need to increase humidity before pip, or they can't pip

Good morning!
Are those eggs vodka jigglers?
I could do up some pina colada jello jigglers, a little sprinkle of toasted coconut on top of the pina colada jello pudding whipped cream. Love RUMmmmmmm

Those eggs are beautiful! Love the idea! I may have to use that for Easter dinner. Great idea.

Evening, everyone! Progress on the bunny pen. I shall now spam with pictures.

The effect of the sun on the run. Almost 20F warmer.

Some of the rocks removed.

More removed rocks.

The foundation. There's a foot of soil in there for the bunnies to dig in.

Eemeli, Wilma and Töyhtis enjoying the sun. Emma is sitting on the eggs in the coop.

Hilma likes the sun too.

The juvenile cockerels. Not much to eat yet, but... I think they're about 11-12 weeks old now. Still no crowing, but those combs are pretty telling. They do sing along with the egg song. I really like the color on this one in the front, but I think we'll be eating all of these.
I love love the picturees and even more love the vidoes :D thanks for sharing soo llooking forward to even more :)

I really like the look of the cockerel in the front. But He's 9 months younger than Eemeli, so it's probably a bad idea to switch roos. Besides, Eemeli has turned out to be quite a nice boy. His sister I'm not as fond of...
