Yup bogtown, frostbite is a big factor in how I need to design this... Can't decide on deep litter on a dirt floor deep litter on a wooden floor or shallow litters that is cleaned out really regularly... definitely going to have poop trays, love me my poop trays under the roost

Hen, the way my run is set up for winter seems to really be working well. I'd go with solid roof, no skylights, and a similar setup as in my run for a whole coop. The insulation and stuff is nice when having chicks and stuff, but feels sort of unnecessary. If you look at my run, pay attention to how it's open at the top, really breaths well. It could still have some sort of air intake openings way down low, but nothing bigger than maybe a 4*8 inch opening every 3-4 feet or so.

Good idea for the venting. My run will need to be 600+ square feet... I daydream about having a clear roof on the run but I want to keep this project at around the $3000 mark so I probably don't have room in my budget clear corrugated stuff... Don't mean the coroplast sheets I mean the higher end polyurethane stuff... That said I know I could do it in high-end green house plastic, ( for under $200 ) if the slope Is steep enough it could last up to 18 years... I wasnt thinking of a true skylight I was just thinking of a couple clear panels that could be matched up with corrugated tin... Like ravyn did... I am Going to insulated walls and ceiling... One of the blessings of my numerous cats is that I have zero rodents... Well I have zero rodent problems... Hmmm... Off to draw more I think... Keep the input coming and please give me a link to your two page vehve....
Oh that said anybody have a brooder design they like? Say for 40 chicks...

Sam, the clear corrugated plastic would probably be about 600ish CAD I'm thinking. I can buy it for about 10 euros per square meter when buying single sheets, and that's a big order, so maybe even less. Ask for offers for the materials, and remember that some places sell some stuff cheap while otehr stuff might be cheaper somewhere else. With that big of a build, shipping it in from a bit further isn't that expensive either.
