The one I had to butcher didn't crow until he was 7-8 months old. Mixed breed, a little EE and who knows what...

They are close to the house..... unfortunately I dont live there right now. I was trying to raise them from a distance... sixty miles away. But even when I do live there at the time the predators just had free rein.
thats why I am not planning on any poultry or goats till I move back.... and build my Poultry house/fortress.

figured would find something there...argh wish you hadnt compared it to fingernail removing makes my fingers twitchy lolI have seen them removed on You Tube.... Hot potato was one method and just pliars was another. You only remove the external part of the spur.... kind of like pulling off a fingernail.
they grow back

lol I hate texting and the texting spell check makes it even worse nothing like spending two hours trying to type out a simple sentenceMan I have to leave the suggestive text and spell check off on my phone, I edit more words, I didn't write black box... I would rather have misspelled words than the wrong ones.
ok I have kinda a weird question and might be confusing to ask so bare with me... say if you have two roosters and one hen... she lays an egg monday and rooster A is the father and the next day she lays an egg can it be rooster B who is the dad then?

my dog the first time.... I had him put down... for a whole bunch of OTHER reasons. But my Rosie was a good girl with the chickens.
No it was Coyoties that took my flock last time... Raccoons got the Tween agers.... I missed an important spot on the chainlink of the coop and they were coming in as if there was a door just for them.
I have lost four flocks now to mostly Coyote and bobcat predation. when I got some more chicks to raise up my Roomate said.. "So you going to kill another batch"
That phrase alone struck me just the other day.... sob.... But I was able to keep chickens for a good two years each time... So I do know what to do.
