Dixie Chicks

do you have a largish cage you can move all the chicks out to the new coop Put something on top so they dont get pooed on...  then keep them there for a few days and open the cage just a little so they can come and go but the big birds cant get in.

Thats what I do for the Guineas....

I have a massive dog crate. I was also thinking it was probably a good time to separate some of my bird so I know who I am breeding, and who's laying what... so it will be a win-win to put the babies in that coop with some of the adults and move some of the adults out to the older coop.

I was reading something today about oyster shell and some brands arent as good as others.. I hadnt really thought about it .. I mean oyster shell is oyster shell isnt it? and can you use say you buy oysters to eat could you use the shells for the birds if you I dunno hammered it up or whatever? cleaned it ect ect ect

There a fun article about breaking egg eaters on here, one of the strategies was to fill an egg with mustard or dish soap when the chicken goes to eat it they get so grossed out they never ever peck another egg...
I built rollaway nesting boxes also prevents the dogs from stealing my eggs.

@hennible

I really like the rollaway nesting boxes better. Once i get my chickens again I will be away from them for two to three days at a time.... Best to have the eggs in the box and rolled out of sight. thats why when i build the nest boxes they will be able to handle three or four days worht of eggs.
