Just been in a bit of a depression funk lately, @Amberjem... Was getting thru it and then had to cull one of my first hatches cockerels today cuz of a slipped hock, blech...
I did get another coop built, just like the last one... but Silkies are being super dense and snuggling a cinder block instead of going in at night... and my Silkies are major bullies, I don't get it cuz I thought they were low on the pecking order?? Prolly gonna move them to a separate coop, am tired of them spitting out feathers from my Araucanas...

So today was bitter sweet! The red sex links are gone but I have enough straw to last till maybe fall gets here again. I also have just 5 dozen eggs to try and make last till the teenagers start to lay. So now my breeds are 7 lavender orps, 1 light Sussex, 1 RIR all teenagers. Then I have 4 RIR chicks in the brooder. Then all the stupid ducks.

Good lord the ducks are not smart at all. They run the yard in a line and if the first one falls in a hole.... They all fall in the same hole.

They sound like lemmings, lol... 7 Lav Orps?? Lucky you! I got 1 and he turned out to be a Roo... gonna cross him with some BA's and see what I can do with them...

lavender!! .. what happened to the sex links?..thats alot of straw?? when are you expecting the layers to start laying? lol follow the leader

Sweet and cuddly my a**, lol... OH has named the roo Darth Vader, it fits... slipped hock is dislocation of the leg joint, what we would call our knees, I guess? He popped the tendon and and it just kept getting worse... couldn't watch him be in pain anymore...
