Jobs are hard to come by here also. Very hard. I drive 25 miles each way to work. 17 years. I really want a job closer to home. For the past year, I have put in so many applications, I can't count.

To all you tea lovers out there. I just made a cup of Bigelow Peppermint Bark herb tea. Its kinda gross....maybe it needs some milk...?

My son is 25. Super smart and his own worst enemy. He was an Astronomy major untill a Dickwad teacher ruined it for him.... Were talking Four semesters of Calculus, Quantum physics, Optics, Data analysis... He even worked last summer analyzing the data from the Kepler telescope. Looking for XOplanets. He found several AND an anomoly that got him written up along with the grad student in charge in a scientific paper.... By the Dr. of the department.

In order to go for your Bachelors of Scinece in Astronomy you are required to take a Math minor... They were given subjects even Math Majors didnt have to take. The last math class My son lost it.... had a nervous break down and faild it...

So he was glad he didnt take the Two math classes or it would have been a double failure. He substituted a creative writing class. Hes spent so many years reading it never occured to him that he might be able to write. So he signed up for the Nanorimo contest... National Writers month... he had to write a fifty thousand word Novel in one month.... While he was taking this creative writing class. He finished his novel and at the end of the creative writing class the teacher asked him to come see her.

She offered to write a recommendation to be able to go for his Masters of Fine Arts once he gets his Bachelors completed. He was stunned... of course he got an A in the class... And surprisingly to him the F in math only brought his whole grade point average down to a B-....

So he analyzed the best way to accomplish his Bachelors.... And switched majors to Sociology... He had his first class today. He just checked in and the first class was in a lecture hall with over 250 seats and it was packed with standing room only... Lots of last minute crashers.... He liked the teacher... Whew.

So... Who knows what he will be when he gets out. Writer astonomer.... We both write science fiction... He loves Lovecraftian worlds.... I am a hard science fan.... I have been writing science fiction for almost 45 years.... and he has just started... His first piece is Aeons better than my latest.

deb
funny how pathways open before us when we are willing to see them..best of luck for him :)

Wow...three day, 300 posts behind.
I hope everyone has been doing great. Loving all the pics I scanned by. Will admit I didn't read every page.
I set some ducklings to hatch...having fun watching those. Will be/should be setting up have this weekend. Will make sure to have pics on here.
Back to work now...boo. have a great day all!!

work?! isnt it time to play yet?!!?
@perchie.girl
Glad your son found a way to make it all work. I bet you he will be writing some excellent sci-fi that background.

Different subject baby chickens...
Okay I have come all the way back to my original plan of putting my little chickens in my old coop... should I hang heat lamp in there or should I give them a heating pad in a little cozy compartment area? Perhaps I shouldn't do anything... No it's in an insulated coop, when the temperatures start to dip back down they will need some sort of heat... don't you think?
if they are feathered they should be ok... I have stopped the heat lamp on my new years chicks for now unless it drops back down...been puttin them otuside for abotu an horu a day now didnt get to today had to go off island

Awesome bama! Did you use a kit or a recipe?
Where do you buy your supplies?
I usually do two five gallon batches at once and fill soda kegs, no more bottling for me.

when did you start brewing?
Wow, I've finally caught-up but didn't even try to multi-quote through all the pages!

Congrats on children's accomplishments, new birds/bunnies/dogs etc. and completed construction projects!
Prayers for those who need them.
Yay, for swapping and sharing of chocolate, seeds, eggs and what-have-yous.

Hawks at Pittsburgh tonight and then the All-Star break. Antti Raanta was in the net last night for the victory over the Coyotes. Teuvo is playing with more confidence. I'll be glad when Versteeg is back, we are missing him.

We had about 3/4 of the ground bare yesterday, this morning about 4-5 inches of new snow and everything is white again.....

Spring....Spring...wherefore art thou, Spring?!

I dunno but I want it here now pls!?
Deb, nice to hear he liked it. Good luck to him.

Sam, I might give them a bit of heat just to be safe. Al would probably say no.

Haven't made beer myself, but my dad used to make apple wine sometimes. We found ten bottles that had been forgotten for six or seven years, it was delicious.

always great to find those lil treasures!
Oh. Okay.
I was going to guess a spittoon with a target in it... Kind of like those toilet targets of little battleships or something....

Let us know how it turned out. I like all-grain brewing... Makes beer making into a total science project. My favorite part is the fermentation when it sounds like a crazy aquarium. I did the first ferment in a glass carboy once...amazing how much churning and roiling was going on. Fermentation is VERY active.

do you ferment anything now?
Gas has finally come down to the point that you don't have to make life changing decisions at the pump. So what happens next.... They are getting ready to put more taxes on gas.

figures
I know! It makes a huge difference at the pump, especially when you have a vehicle with a large tank!
1.95 for gas today filled up my tank for 14 bucks so nice

lemon or earl grey is good.....to me!! (with a ton of sugar)
I like grey, but I usually stay away from caffiene except those rare occassions i splurged and had a coke today

its sort of amazing to me...im thinking it would be cool to "grow your own beer". Grow the grains, hops, keep mother yeast, etc.

Lol that target looking thingy is a wyyeast liquid yeast packet. I really prefer it. It starts fast and hits hard...
I have a plastic carboy for now...
My cousin up the road (in Los Alamos) is big into beer making. Grows his own hops. Makes some odd stuff, though, with garlic and/or chile peppers. His dad will come out to visit and they dedicate at least a whole day to it. Albuquerque was voted -- what -- No. 4 in the nation for beer towns. Believe it. We have four brewpubs within a mile of each other just in our outskirts vicinity alone. I used to live in Las Vegas, NV, and suspended brewing while there because it was too dang hot...unless you're doing a 3-day IPA. Schlepped all my stuff out here. Found out there's a supply store just down the road that I plan to cruise soon...need yeast for the hard cider and, yes, barley, hops, crystal malt and all the goods for a batch o' brew.

Constant Comment and milk.... mmmmmmmm....... With graham crackers on the side, that's comfort food right there.

Pretty sure @Beer canis going to make a thread in the "hobbies" section about brewing and drinking. Stay tuned.....
