My sunflower seeds day 1

Day 3

I love these big, handled strainers I got at local dollar store. I can hang them to drain.
I don't have to mess with mason jars (I am dangerous around glasses, no grip strength

drops everything) and they get even more sunlight.
Chickens are gonna love me even more now.

Colonial Williamsburg Orange Cake
Night before soak 1 cup of golden raisins in golden rum and scrapings from half a vanilla bean set on counter covered especially if you have a cat.

Sift the flour several times set aside. White Lily was used as I remember it.

Put 2 cups of sugar through a pounding.
In case you did not know, an unbleached old flour sack was used to measure out sugar into the old flour sack and beatten with a mallot or hammer on a wooden board till fine. Sift and set aside.
No powder sugar will not do because it is all 10x and table sugar used for Tea, regular modern day baking, is too course.

One cup of eggs set on counter over night to room temp, cover if you have a cat.

Butter set on counter overnight to soften. Please cover if you have a cat, they will eat the butter if you do not cover. Or make your own with heavy cream, that is a lot of shaking that jar while watching night time show. I would get 1 cup or small brick of KerryGold unsalted is easier.
Grandma would make us shake that old fruit jar. As we watched I love Lucy or Milton, Red, Jackie, Mich Miller, or Amos and Andy.

Preheat over to 350
Grease and flour a tube pan used for angel food cakes or a more modernday bundt cake pan from the 70's. Grandma did not layer this cake because of the full body and weight of all the nuts, raisins and pineapples and she felt the wholeness of the cake was prettier and better able to see the nuts, coconut, pineapple bits and grated orange
Whip 1 cup of sweet butter with beater adding pounded sugar slowly till full bodied.

Add 1 cup of eggs slowly and carefully as beating. Till less body. Please do not over beat, a common mistake.
1 cup of drained crushed pinapple.
1 cup of coconut meaty large flakes

4 cups of sifted flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
2 teaspoons of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
Sift and set aside

Liquids
1 cups of buttermilk
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1/3 cup of pinapple juice and bits drained off from the pineapple.
1/3 cup of rum vanilla bean liquud drained from raisins
1/3 cup of orange juice squeezings.
Pour together and

Sift together and sprinkle by a measuring cup Folding in by hand and alternating with liquids.
Fold in pinenuts, rum soaked and drained golden raisins, coconut orange grated zest peelings of at least two large oranges. Save back several peeling swirls and Save that orange interior pulp for frosting.

Bake at 350 pour into angel food cake pan or modern 70's Bundt pan and bake for about 45 minutes and your fingers spring and do not leave a dent.
Let cool.

Frosting
1/2 cup of sweet butter
4 cups of 10X powder sugar
Juice from the 2 oranges added slowly till you have the desired consistancy. More for a glaze less for more bodied frosting.
Scrapings of half a vanilla bean. beat till fluffy and sugar has desolved in orange juice

Slather on cooled cake.
Back then they did not have all this wonderfully heated living quarters. If you are uncomfortable about leaving eggs, butter and raisins sitting in rum sitting on counter in closed containers I fully understand.

Sam, it all takes us back to two of the most important people in the history of physics, Galileo Galilei, and Sir Isaac Newton. In their experiments, they laid the basis for the theory that all objects with a mass attract each other, and hence the discovery of gravitation was made. Okay, maybe I'm a bit too far back in history at this point.

Tell the person that it won't work for the same reason as you don't take a plate of water, you take a glass of it. It will pour out.

Ah, your FF feeder, not the regular gravity feeder. Ok, I'll reply in that thread.
