Dixie Chicks

Mommy is looking pretty pleased with herself...

Slight progress with the bunny pen again.

Once the paint has dried, I can attach the rest of the net, and cut the extra off from the top, then I need to attach the wiring to the bottom doors and attach them. That's about all I've got materials for, still need some hinges though. And then I need to pick up the Onfuline roofing, and all the wood needed for the siding, the floor and the horizontal roof supports. Oh, and the top doors I don't have wood for either. That I need to get, assemble the doors, paint them, and put some net on them too. But I'm one step closer to finished again.

Ducks, they are horrible housekeepers, aren't they? Splash their water everywhere. I don't have any experience myself, but that's what I've read.

It's not so bad. It stays in the brooder unlike with the mess the chicks made when they were inside...

ducks are horrid housekeepers but it's all about management. Biggest issue is water. After a couple days of age I hang their waterer up where they can get their head into it but not their body. helps to keep the mess down to a minimum

Yup water... I've got a waterer they can only get their head in so it reduces the mess a bit.

Vehve the bunny house is looking great... I really want to start my coop! But looks like we're having a carpenter do it... At least it will be level....

Amberjem, awesome job giving mama hen some chicks. So far despite the work I really like raising them myself it has made for even friendlier birds, which is handy if you need to treat them for injury etc... Also I'm hoping they cooperate better come butchering....

Today I need to move my cockerels to the greenhouse, they're getting to be... Roosters...

Sam, as big as your planning on building it, a carpenter might be a good idea. They can probably get lumber more cheaply too. Still going with the 200 sqf plan, or has it gotten even bigger? Although, I've seen some pretty good prices on prefab sheds, they're pretty easy to put together. We put together a faux loghouse type outhouse at the cottage, it was like a day to build it. And it seems pretty stable, would probably work nicely for chickens too as a slightly larger version.

384sqft  16x24
Honestly we could probably do it well enough We have a lot of experience renovating, but no time.... But the carpenter said he could probably do it in a week.... We get a discount at one of the lumber places here but if your buying in lifts the discount no longer applies, hope he can save some cash on it... Oh one more plus the carpenter grew up raising chickens, well hopefully it's a plus...
