Ooo sounds nice.  Um what is SweetGrass?   It sounds vaguely familiar

We have wild white sage at higher elevations but my Native American friend says any sage will do as long as you thank the sage plant and bury some tobacco near the roots. I have eighteen acres of sage....  The desert sage isnt so white or fragrant.

Rock salt would big chunks like you use for icecream do?

Not my pic, but long, thin ones on bottom are sweetgrass... your NA friend would know about it, Native Americans actually use it about as much as they use sage, depending on the groups... the smoke from it is sweeter and isn't as overpowering as sage...

As for rock salt, not sure on the ice cream type... I use these...

I think the Pink Himalayan salt slabs that are popular now are same type...

@Amberjem

as far as selection of breeder birds I havent reached that point in chicken keeping. yet. I have to work on keeping a flock alive for more than two or three years first.... sigh.

But when I do I will start with something locally bred so I can see the parents or the breeders stock and get educated on what they do to achieve a good quality bird. Breeders sometimes charge less for culls. Or birds that dont fit the SOP. Wrong foot or leg color... or Lack of certain attributes...

What I look for in a Chicken will be for my own environment... SOP doesnt matter because I will be only selling Guinea Hatching eggs.

For chickens I want good conformation... Hard feathers for the heat Nice roebust clean legs (no feathers) and an alert expression. I dont want cuddly... I want a chicken that can fly. Good natured to each other but I need them to be able to get away from predators.

OK I was picturing the Himalayan kind.... its VERY old..... Rock salt is granuals about the size of a lentil.

And I have seen the sweet grass.

Unfortunately my NA friend has moved on. He was an artist and a graphic artist a shaman and had been through the Sun Dance Ceremony. I suspect hes doing well selling his stuff on the internet.

There are many people here Our local tribes are basically the Kumeyay... But each group call themselves something different... they were the largest ranging from deep into Mexico all the way up through California and some of Oregon. they were organized and cooperative with each other.... we were horrible to them. sigh.

Salt is used in many many cultures for negative energy or energy balancing... I like that a lot.
