Shipped duck eggs: let them rest for 24 hrs on the kitchen counter big end up after arrival? What do you think?

I let mine sit for a few hours, as soon as they are room temp I put them in the bator... but I also use upside-down cartons with bottoms cut out for the eggs to sit in... and just slightly tilt them side to side 3 times a day... if air cells are really wonky, I don't tilt for the first 2-3 days, depending on how bad they are...

Everyone will give you different answers, but this worked well for me...

Yes. I am not complaining about the work. I am working towards hopefully going full time ASAP. We need medical insurance.

I need opinions on my tree. I have a crabapple tree out front. It gets beautiful pink blossoms on it in May. Here is a pic of it now. The 2nd pic is of the trunk. Something has ate a HUGE hole up the trunk of it. I cant tell how much of the trunk is hollow, but it's a lot.






I still have to cut the "sucker trees" down, but hopefully you can see what I am talking about. This tree was sitting in snow/ice/water all winter, but it's fairly dry within a 10' circle around the tree. Any ideas what could have caused this? Hobbits? Gnomes?

If it hasnt been Girdled it should survive.... Those suckers may be an indication of the stress its going through. they are its way to survive. Try tapping on the trunk to see how large the hole is....

My goats girdled two trees in my yard... Killing them one they did a good job of trying but they ony stripped the bark off one side. It has survived though it shed a few branches.

Jem, so when do you start adding nutrients when starting from seed?

Sam, I am testing a little theory, it's sort of a passive hybrid hydroponics and aeroponics system. I'm using a wick to passively draw the nutrient solution, and to also act as the growth medium. The roots will be suspended in air, but resting against the wick so they'll also draw moisture and nutrients. If this works, it will be quite interesting. It's just one seed though, just testing the concept a little bit.

thats what I did...and the eggs were hugely beat up from the post office but got fifty percent hatch rate

I'd start with good PH balanced water until the seeds pop wait on nutes...then add a small dose at a time so you dont burn the seedlings...by the second leaf should have yopur nutes upped to normal

I've got the 7 egg brisea incubator so I think they only fit sitting sideways in there.... wrong assumption?
