Well.... I had to take some of the chicks out of the brooder... since some of the peppier were starting to poke at the eye balls of the pipped and slow to unzip chicks.
Stupid blood thirsty chicks.
And since I CLEARLY am incapable of planning well... I have one brooder, and do NOT want to set up a second one (since then I would have to buy a second heat bulb, already have the lamp)... I had to put the newly hatched chicks in with the day old quail.![]()
And, oddly enough, the chicken chicks didn't try to eat my quail chicks.... the quail tried to eat the chickens... not badly though... I think everything is fine... I will type this, give them one more check, and then go to bed.
Luckily, they are all still close enough to newly hatched, that there isn't too much fight in any of them.
OK.... of the 1 dozen dark brown rose comb and 1 dozen white rose comb that I ordered..... what do have so far? (remember, he did add in about 22 extra mystery leghorn eggs, and NONE of his eggs were labeled, and I tossed out I thin 19 eggs that were mostly clears with a very few early blood rings)
I have:
2 single comb white leghorns
1 rose comb white leghorn that has wry neck or something similar
1 single comb maybe Exchequer but with a big scab on the belly button... he looks OK, but not great, panting a bit, still iffy if he will make it
1 single comb black
2 single comb brown chicks... maybe they are a dark brown leghorn and a dark red, or two different shade of brown
2 rose comb brown chicks
there are more pipping... I saw one white (don't yet know if rose or single comb), and 2 black and one maybe exchequer.
