50-55% is high for incubation. Im running mine at 25%

They're based on a Swedish landrace, and while Skåne where they originate from is slightly further south than I am, I think naturally the incubation temp they're hatched at may have been slightly lower than that of birds originating in warmer climates. One idea would be to turn down the temps slightly, maybe half a degree or even a whole degree (F).

it seems to be a humidity issue more than anything. They would develop completely and drown. I left absolutely no water in the incubator this time and they both popped right out at 21 days. The humidity has been staying between 29% and 40% depending on the outside humidity and everyone else develops and hatches fine but the dang SFH. I'm hoping this was the issue and I can fill an order for someone!

Washers won't work, they're too thin. You need something taller. If you fill a couple of hotel mini-bar sized booze bottles with water and close the cap, they will help stabilize temps in there, and take up space from the water. Depends on the size of the water well too, but if you can find something that has roughly half the surface area of the well it should cut down the humidity to where you want it.
 
chickisoup, I love those old hit and miss motors. The old guy that originally owned our house had a lot of them and took the smaller ones to all the county fairs. He had a big one in the front yard under a pavilion. Love the old tractors. I have a old 1964 Case 530ck backhoe. Have a little more work to do with it and then it's for sale so I can either get a ford 8n project to put in the ford flathead v8 'funk' kit, or a Allis Chalmers wd45. Can't decide which, it'll be just to plow our driveway Lol.
 
Sam, I think I've seen terms such as "stun bolt", "stun gun", "bolt stunner", "bolt gun", "captive bolt pistol" and "cattle gun" used. Cattle guns are usually bigger and more powerful though.

I think it sorta looks like a bicycle pump, but that's just me.

Oh shut.. now I feel bad, hope I didn't loose a good hatch. Can't take out the last bit of water until I get home tonight
