Dixie Chicks

MORNING! Glad to see you're doing well. Was beginning to think you quit your own thread.....? LOL!

Just made an emergency run to the coop. The roosters (about 10 of the grown ones) were sounding the alarms. I ran out there to see if anything was in the have a heart traps or in the coop or whatever. As soon as I got back there a cat ran out of the run area. I caught this same cat last year & let it go. When I catch it this time, I will not let it go around here. It got dark quick last night at feeding time & we couldn't get an accurate count on the baby chicks. They manage to get out of the dog house we have for them and then they cant get back in. Mama hen clucks and clucks until all 5 babies are in place.

Anyone else's molting? Mine are REALLY molting. We got 8 eggs yesterday

I was looking for a new nest somewhere because our normal is 20+ a day. I seen feathers everywhere and bald spots all over the girls which has been starting, but is now in full blown molt.

You all have a great day. I've got to get ready for work. Its all quiet here now except for DH talking in his sleep

. Hoping he doesn't wake himself up.
I think mine have started.. feathers everywhere. When I was opening up the coop yesterday morning I saw one of girls give a quick shake and she lost a couple of feathers just from that. Most of them were last years hatch, so it'll be their first time moulting. No bald spots on them except on the EE back from excessive mating.

Hello @amberjem.

I've noticed a few of mine look like they're trying to molt. Not to mention that I have 7 broodies . All 3 of my bantam orpington hens are sitting. Well, at least I got 15 to 20 chicks from the new cockerel before that started. I've decided to let them sit some call duck eggs. We'll see how that goes.

My ohiki are hit and miss on eggs. I think they're doing a slow molt, I know my rooster is. I get 3 or 4 eggs a week from the 4 hens. I kicked the Swedish flowers hens out of breeding pens and into general layer population. I know one of them has lost her tail and the rest of her looks patchy and disheveled. My red and white hen looks pretty good still. I'm sure they'll begin to follow.

just no patience, wish I had all the answers for things THIS awesome!

I picked up two Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. I hope I am not stuck with them. The girls are beautiful and they are pullets so maybe stuck is the wrong word. Hubby advised against it but I was told how much she really wanted some so I picked out two beauties for her. Aged 2-3 months for $15. Seemed reasonable.
