After the "only" other drake got killed a bunch of my hens turned out to be male... The duckling that quacked first... A drake! Vocal sexing is not all its quaked up to be...

I miss working in a big city. Used to have my choice between 100s of restaurants. Little town I work in now has 3. No big name restaurant chains or anything. Just 3 little mom and pop operations. Two close at 2pm. Then the pizza place opens at 4pm daily. It's crazy.

Yep You can drive from Mexico to Oregon and never really be no more than a couple of miles away from one. 32 in San Diego alone county

blech. 6 to 2 ratio...

yeah... but the good news is that i have 2 male Anconas and 3 females. The two whites ones are male/female and the tricoloured one and the 2 that are decent coloured make up a trio. They were nice and vocal about it too. While they look nice and plump they feel small compared to the Cayugas, but then those guys are only ~3 months old (May hatch) so there is hope they'll fill out nice and heavy.

We voice sexed too. Some of the hens were quite vocal about it but some of the ducks didn't want to say anything in my arms, so down to the ground they went for later sexing. Once I was down to the last 3 ducks it became very obvious that they all where doing the raspy quack (if that's what you call it).
I did the catching and holding while mom tagged the feet with red or blue tiny zap straps. By the way, mom is afraid of birds, especially those that fly and my turkeys. Turns out she is starting to like my ducks, even got her to pet them. But then the ducks are a bit afraid themselves...

I raised finches and Parakeets in big aviaries when I lived in the city... My picture window on my house faced the back yard fence of the house in front of me... So I set the aviaries in front of that window... woke up every day to the bored sounding Beep Beeep Beep and little raspy songs of Zebra finches... fussing and cavorting of about fifteen parakeets.... and the Rhapsody of my male Canary... i had one male and one female.

of them all I would have Canaries again in a nanosecond.

All that cage wire from those aviaries plus four more aviaries someone gave me will be used for my new chicken coop as the perimeter wire works out to be 48 linear feet at six feet high. I have seven door panels too... I am hoping to convert those to something useful for caring for my chickens... Two four foot wide panels with doors... and five six foot panels with doors. All human accessible but not handicapped accessible...

four foot panel with a door has the door square in the middle. the six foot panels have the door off set to one side the same distance from the edge as the four foot panel... Hmmm... I could use them for poop catcher clean out access.

Oh and the doors can be reversed because the frames are bolted through the wire.... thinking out lout here.

I can use the two four footers for the small partitions and the rest for the Guinea incarceration... I need four for that. for the twenty four foot long roost area. I will have to set the poo catchers down low to line up with the doors...

and rig tamper proof way to secure the doors... on all of them. It can be done
