Dixie Chicks

Not a fan of cats but then I do like the shop cat at work. He's survived a heavy duty shop for 1 1/2 years which would make him some what smart, right?

Well, I took the turning tray out from my chicken hatch and increased the humidity. Quick candle tells me that one was trying to internally pip! C'mon Chickie's!!

:fl

I have a situation I'd like opinions about.  We found an abandoned girl kitten.  Cute as a button, although I am not a cat person.  DH is more so NOT a cat person.  Brought it home with intent to rehome it.  Posted flyers "Free Kitten" etc.  If no one takes this kitten, it will become a barn cat.  How many of you have or had barn cats?  I am worried about the urine smell & fecal matter clean up.
I assume there is no chicken proof litter box which would mean my chickens would eat the litter:sick , so that's not an option.  Just trying to make provisions in case it's ours to keep.  In the meantime:

I thought everyone has a barn cat and inside cats also. They go after mice, spiders, bugs and ither crawling things. Smell? I never thought about the outside cat that is usually a big strong cat having a smell. They prefer to go do their business OUTSIDE. Now an inside cat? Change the little pan every three days or less. Walmart sells the 7 pound green bag of kitty litter for a dollar. I would get it spayed or neutered. They also get along fine with chickens and even like to sleep with them during cold weather.

I have outside snakes for that.

Outside snakes only pee on me when i catch them inside. they come inside in the fall.. And their pee stinks. At least I am not allergic to them like I am to cats. Lol
We only have gardener snakes here, harmless. Love them outside, don't think a chicken egg would ever fit their mouth

This boy hasn't been handled much at all, lol...

Snake pee stanks! You only get it on you if you catch them wrong. We mostly only have garter and milk snakes, some can get big but no egg or chicken eaters. We had a five or more foot milk snake hanging around in father in laws barn, we never lost a egg or chicken. We have timber rattles but I've never heard of anyone gettin bitten by one.....until last summer someone did about five miles from us! Snakes scare me, I jump and scream, but I leave them alone. Not against cats, just don't like the touchy feely ones, go rub and purr somewhere else. The 'Independent' 'free thinking' ones are cool.
Actually I think my neighbors cat was eating my ducklings a few yrs ago!!!
