Al, I've seen some pictures, but I've been going to bed pretty early lately. And down here in the south we've got too much light pollution to really see them properly. Maybe I should try and have a look tonight. Our yard isn't the best for that though, as we've got trees pretty close by to the north. I would need to get a bit higher, somewhere where I can get an unobstructed view.
To weigh poultry, take your scale to the coop, weigh yourself and remember your weight, then pick up the critter, and reweigh yourself while holding the critter. Subtract your weight from the weight of you while holding the critter. You can also get a 5 gal. utility bucket (like the ones they sell at Home Depot), put the bird in the bucket, weigh it, then subtract the weight of the bucket.
We've been seeing the northern lights for the last couple nights. Beautiful clear nights. Thankfully no frost!
Been trying my hand at mixing some grains, etc to supplement my ducks feed. So far I've been letting peas and wheat soak for 24 hours before I feed it out. Ducks love it along with their normal feed. One of the changes I think I'll do is add some ACV and go from a 2 bucket system to a 3 bucket system so peas can soak for a full 2 days.
Tonights batch also has couple scoops of alfalfa pellets mixed in.
Go easy on the ACV, I'd give it only once a week or so. It'll mess with calcium absorption. Peas and wheat in a 50-50 mix will give you about 17% protein. If you want to get more detailed about the nutrient breakup, I can share my feed calculation spreadsheet.
Have you looked into different filtration systems? Or course, that takes hydro.
I like the one where you pump the water from one end of the pond, and have it come out of the pipe into a large gravel pond, that then drains into the real pond.
