Help, I have a very poorly little chic, can anyone advise me on what to do to help her?

Hi,

First, you'll probably get better help posting in the threads dedicated for help. And I suggest you describe the problem to as much detail as possible. What has happened? When? What have you done so far? Without knowing anything else, I suggest isolating the chick from the rest of the flock, keeping it warm, and making sure it gets water, and a bit of food.

Hi thank you for your response. I've posted in 'help' but am still waiting for a response. I've separated her, and brought her indoors to keep her warm. One eye looked sore last week so we separated her and bathed her eye. Yesterday it was much better so we put her back with the flock & we found her like this this morning. She's drinking lots but I don't think she's eating. Her little beak is open all the time & she's sneezing

Sounds like a severe respitory infection. Either cull her or get her on a strong oral antibiotic... Watch the rest of you flock closely... Just my opinion. @casportpony would likely know what to do.

I've moved her out from the flock, I'm not sure I have it in me to cull her & my husbands away, typical! I'll try and get her antibiotics if she's still with us in the morning. Thank you for your advice

This is just based on what I've seen and is just what I would do, but I would think its and infectious issue... I would add a lot of fresh chopped garlic to the rest of the flocks water, also apple cider vinegar and/or a water soluble antibiotic... Make sure the coop is clean and dry and well ventilated.

With the symptoms described, I vote for culling, but Sam's advice is good too. I disagree with it due to my own thoughts on food hygiene, but you don't want to hear a rant about antibiotics right now. Also, how's the air in your coop? Very moist and/or dusty? Those kind of conditions expose the birds to respiratory issues more easily. See too it that you have good air flow in the coop.

Oh I'm with you on the antibiotics Felix... I just know most people won't/can't cull a flock. id treat naturally (garlic, oregano oil, that kinda thing) and if I saw no improvement after a few days, well I'd cull my flock, or those effected and continue to bolster the others immune systems for a few weeks... But yes, totally with you on the antibiotic issues... No bird, no livestock, is worth the weakening of existing antibiotics or the creation of super bugs due to a lack of diligence during treatment... Yeah...
