Watching the national news last night.... Your earthquake barely made a mention! The whining on weather never stops, though, as D.C. is feeling crippled by 2" of snow....top story.

It was interesting of how little damage there was for such magnitude. Heck, most other places would've shook to the ground.

Hey! I got the Chicken Coop Pic of the Week!

I saw that..... congrats

It is because everyone up here builds for quakes... I had a friend in construction, he went on vacation to some place in the lower 48, he told me he almost face planted when he saw a house being built down there. He said the roof trusses were tiny thin, and way too far apart. I am sure the comparison continues throughout the entire building.

Anyone ever see this? Or better yet try this...

Picking eggs based on shape supposedly for more gender control.

I see egg shape would equal better or worse hatch... Maybe an inferior shaped shell makes it too difficult to hatch for anything but the peppiest chicks... Peppiest chicks are male, and tada.

Other than that,
I think it is stupid. The hen's egg tract is NOT gonna know what sex sperm hit the yolk.

Edited to add:
Achem... That is backwards.. In chicken the hen determins sex, but still... Not gunna change how the egg is made.

I remember reading about that egg shape versus sex stuff, people who have experimented with large hatches haven't seen any truth to it.

Al, as to earthquake proofing houses, isn't the key elasticity? A concrete wall might seem sturdy, but it doesn't have any give in it to cope through violent shaking. Wood constructions are better equipped to ride the waves, as you can actually twist a wooden house pretty much before it starts breaking. There was also some experiment done on myth busters, but I don't remember how it ended anymore.
