Thanks!

I still have my trio.... They have just been in with the crowd so I would have to segregate them for a month to get pure eggs, and anyway :sick totally wrong time of year. I think I have 2 grow-out females left. So, I will be fine, just the people that I had promissed grow-outs to obviously aren't getting any...and
I am getting no money. :barnie Also, I do not get to select the best ones to keep... But my trio is pretty good quality, they haven't thrown any impressive duds, so again, should be just fine.

Question for you though... I did get a free blue Am cockerel this spring because it had a "female" single row comb. Do I care? Do you have the copy of the SOP, how big of a fault is that? (Disqualification or point reduction) I like the guy's comb, nice and small, and I like small combs. I am trying to decide how much I want to use him next spring.

Also, supposedly each light colored toenail is a single point off. I don't think I have a single bird with all nails being dark. Do you?

Ugh, I know how that feels... glad you still got a decent trio though, and if you ever want any, just holler...

I thought nails were supposed to be clear? Arg, haven't looked at my book lately, I do have the SOP book and will dig into it as soon as I can and get back to you on all that... as for the comb, has it filled out to 3 rows? That bullhockey about females showing 1 row and males 3 rows early is just that... works more for EE's but it's not reliable... all Am's should have 3 rows... all my Blehm ones do, still not sure how many boys/girls I have yet, lol...

I'll look that stuff up though... no prob...

I love his color! Boby shape looks decent, nice and wide back and chest from what I can see... if his tail stays around that angle that's perfect... watch for it going higher... how is his lacing? Can't see it from this pic... a good chest shot would be better... any leakage?

No leakage at all, and yes, I love his body shape.

I think he looks pretty swell. I don't want to get rid of the black rooster I used this year (from pips and peeps), and I have no idea where this guy came from...but I know that some of his hatchmates had the wrong color legs. :th Now I can't remember if that is recessive or not (and if he could be hiding those bad genes). All of my current legs look great, except for those silly toenails, that I have decided to ignore anyway...I have more important things to cull for. :lau

Here is a close up of the back end of the blue Am roo. I actually see zero lacing. :idunno

The black girl with the knock knees looking right at the camera is an Am X Dominique. I love her face.

Today one of my Buff Orpington pullets got stuck between 2 rabbit cages. This is the 2nd time she has done that. When I found her she couldn't even walk. She would stand up and fall over to the side. Poor dear. I put her in an isolation cage to rest up & get well. In the meantime, I think the problem is that she is at the bottom of the pecking order & the other ones chase her, & she is stupid enough to keep getting stuck:th. Bird brains.

Definitely do not get rid of the roo from pips&peeps, that is known good stock...

What color were some of his hatch mates legs? Willow/green?

If that's what you're worried about, that means they had yellow skin... it's dominant so it would show... wash the bottoms of his feet off (yes, I really do mean for you to wash your cock), and check that skin carefully... if his foot pads are clearly white then he should be fine for breeding, any hint of yellow at all cull him or send him to mixed flock...

I see just a bit of lacing in the medium colored feathers, looks more like edging though... dunno if he'd throw good blues or not...

Yel, she has a very pretty face... :D

Poor girl... hope it gets better for her...

Thanks for the input, I find it greatly helpful. :D

Very welcome... been looking through the book... I cannot find anything about nail color at all... missing or broken nails, yes... shanks, foot and toe color, yes... nada on the nails...

Hummm... They were discussing it on the Facebook Am site.... Someone that sounded knowledgable said it was a point deduction per light nail. :idunno maybe I need to find the post...maybe they gave a page number.
