Lice eggs and larvae/nymphs... keep up on the permethrin spray, retreat in a few days... spray out all coops and bedding for mites, just in case... and I would also treat the rest of the birds too...

It can be much further back than many of the anatomy pictures show.Gizzard? That is at the front...not the back![]()
I use an 18 gauge or larger needle and 30 ml or larger syringes. If they are acting normal and haven't lost weight I just leave them alone, but if acting off I will drain once, maybe twice, or euthanize and necropsy.Once I see wether she is laying or not and the quality of the egg I'll make my next move...
Kathy what do you use for draining something like this? I'm likely ill equipped.
Sadly most of these issues will see her put down
But eh, that's chicken keeping
Please keep in mind that the procedure is not without risk, which is why I only do it if they are already sick looking.thank you Kathy, I've only got the tiniest syringe... I'll see what I can do.
Great pictures! That does not look like any flystrike I have seen, so mites or lice? Maggots will wiggle in place, lice runn.So i have a hen with issues also. I was thinking flystrike, but now I'm just thinking mites. She has no large open wounds, just found some gunk on the feather bases, saw a few wiggly things, so maybe fly maggots? But i bathed her in Epsom salt water a couple nights ago, combed her feathers, and sprayed with permethrin. Today she looks much better and actually laid an egg yesterday.
I repeated the process this morning, so i hope this is working for whatever it is. Comments, cautions, anything?
dry pics are before todays bath, wet ones afterward.
