Dixie Rainbows Thread

Last year I processed at 12 weeks and had weights as high as 8 lbs dressed. Typically they average around 6.5 - 7 lbs. The taste is amazing compared to commercial cornish breeds. A ton of flavor, and better texture.
That's about the size of my meat birds dressed. How is the texture better?

Updated photo of our Rainbow! About 2 months old.

I just picked some of these up at TSC today on clearance for 99c. Can't wait to see what they look like. The chicks I picked out of the bin have pretty good barring on the wings so I'm thinking roosters, which is fine.

Hi! I just got this guy over the weekend. A young cockrel, I have been asking what breed he could possibly be and several folks have suggested a Dixie rainbow. So I thought I might share here and see what you all thought.View attachment 1256498 View attachment 1256498 View attachment 1256499

It's definetly a Dixie Rainbow .. this is a picture of my 3 Dixie Hens for comparison (Don't mind the bearded Easter Egger roo *Mr.Pistachio) i bought them at Tractor Supply one came out to be all white and the rest with speckles on them, just like yours @flockofbantams

This is our chicken that was labeled as a rainbow at the store. I am unsure if she actually is or not?
She grew much faster than other same-aged chicks that were bought at the same time. She had a broken toe when we bought her still has some crooked toes. She was also attacked by a hawk a few months ago. He left two gashes in her back and she wouldn't walk for a few weeks. She can walk fine now, with a limp. She's able to keep up with the others pretty well. She is very friendly and still much larger than our others. If she is not a "rainbow" I am unsure what she is. She has a lot of personality and follows us around the yard. She's even been known to jump up and grab stuff out of our hands if she can. She's a lot of fun.

I believe she is a rainbow also, as her ring around her neck looks very similar to my dixies, mines also jump when i come with food to grab they are docile and friendly , mines also grew extremely fast compared to the rest of my chicks, within 2 weeks they looked like 4 weeks already, and remember no two Dixies look exactly alike .. this is some info i found :

*Dixie Rainbow Chickens are a dual purpose bird that has one of the most unique feather color patterns you will ever see. It has every color you can imagine and no two birds look alike. The best part about this breed is that they make wonderful birds for small backyard flocks giving you the opportunity to butcher them or keep the hens for eggs!

they are average growing birds and will start to lay app 20 to 22 weeks, the hens will reach app 7 lbs, the egg color is brown and the chicks are very cold hardy birds.

APPROX. 250 EGGS/YEAR| EGG COLOR: BROWN |MATURE WT: MALE 6-8 LBS. FEMALE 5-7 LBS.

We love our Dixie Rainbow chickens! They are a great dual purpose breed. We have an adult flock of only around 10 rainbows, but we have 29 babies in the brooder. My main Rainbow Roo is 15 pounds right now and he's only 9 months old! Meet Skittles, my 15 pound, 9 month old Rainbow Roo!
