last night I let our small flock of 5 out to free range. Everyone was doing great and went to bed as usual. Dixie showed no signs of being ill. None of the others are showing any signs, either. She was the head hen and was still bossing everyone around, eating and free ranging. My husband and I ran an errand this morning and when we returned home, I found Dixie had passed in the run. she was on her side.

She was 2.5 year ISA brown. We lost her sister just 4 short months ago.

This has been such a hard, unexpected day. 😔
