DIY Automatic Waterer

humm, really dont know. if you just need to flush it out, you can push the float down and hold it down, that will cause the water to fill and overflow the yukkies out. or just disconnect the garden hose, spray the whole thing off then put the hose back on.

FutureChickenMan... Do you think it will be possible to design a waterer for day to week old chicks that has got high suicidal tendencies? Meaning, they must be able to drink but not able to get in the water...

I have been wrecking my brain trying to come up with something you don't need to fill every hour, and cant come up with much working.. It doesn't have to be automatic.. a "daymatic" will be such an improvement!

Believe it or not, but I've been working on one in my brain for the last week.. The problem I keep running in to is expense. I've found all the parts necessary, but they're pretty spendy. I haven't given up yet..

ok, next question.. how much would you be willing to pay for such a device?

right now I've got it to about $30. Still too much in my mind, but when dealing with something so small, the conventional stuff just wont work.

Friend, converted to Rand (our currency), I have paid more than that just for one of your auto waterer's. I considered it such a bargain that I got the last of everything together that I going to need to instal in all five coops the same and to make it a permanent fixture. I am very impressed with the whole set up and for me it is a worthwhile, wise, investment! I will post a pic here when I am done with all.

I do hope that answered your question. My big bator (91 eggs) will hatch (fingers crossed) next Thursday. The set up with water that I got going at the moment just for a small amount of chicks is so pathetic that I fear I wont be able to keep up with even half of the 91.

Were I am now in my life.. that sound like the bargain of the century!

Ok, well I have some parts on order hopefully get them next week. And I'll need to get the other parts in the next day or two. Are there any dimentional considerations I need to keep in mind? (size of brooder etc) Also, how many chicks will you attempt to water off the one machine?

I'll start posting pic's as I go.. The main hold up right now is the parts I had to order.

I will built as many as needed. I don't know how many because I don't know how successful the hatch is going to be.

The one brooder is 1 meter by a half and the other is 1 and a half by 1 meter. Sorry, I do not know how to convert that to your foot (?) inches (?) That is why I love your designs so much. Even if I don't understand your measurements, The description and pics are clear enough for me to fill in the blanks.

I am very grateful.

Thank you.

1 meter = 3 feet
1 foot = 12 inches

I picked up the "pan" today and some plumbing parts. I'm waiting on those other parts. I'm a little concerned that you will be able to get the same parts. The suppliers I'm using don't ship outside the US. :-(
