DIY Duck treats/suet cakes

I mixed some peanut butter with all the goodies. Just enough for them to get a good taste. Put it in two small dishes and took it out to them. They all seem a bit skeptical but it might be because they're usual treats are soupy and this is not. The Mallard and khaki seem pretty happy with it (mostly the Mallard) and the pekins have pecked at it a bit but nothing more hmmm maybe if a couple of them will eat it then maybe I'll make them anyway and just keep offering occasionally cuz atleast a couple of them will eat it. I take that back we just got a bit more of a forceful bite out of it from a Pekin.. maybe if I use so much goodies that it almost crumbles apart it'll be easier for them.

Mine love meal worms. I usually drop a few in their water each night as a goodnight once they're in for the night before I leave the barn. I'll take some peanut butter out there now and see how they react to it. They seem to be crazy about most treats or foods in general. But ya never know the one time I make a batch of treats like this they might decide to hate it lol
My ducks would do everything for meal-worms! Really EVERYTHING!
They loose all their dignity if they see a meal-worm…
But i had to switch them to dry cat-food, buying meal-worms for 24 ducks will ruin you pretty quickly…

We just have 4 ducks and we usually get the monster bag of scratch and same size bag of layer crumbles. This 5#bag of different scratch I got for their treats has all kinds of extra goodies in it and bloodworms and I'm adding meal worms to the cakes too. We have 8 eggs in the incubator right now hoping for girls lol (our 4 is a 3:1 ratio which is no good for our 1 girl. Everything's divided in two right now. The run, the coop, 2 on one side and 2 on the other)

I was thinking about that using lard. I remember my grandma using lard to make the best pie crusts ever (she and all the family lived way into their 90's). I could melt it and mix birdseed, dry cat food, and corn in it and let it harden? Anyone else done that?
Yes, as a boy for the wild birds, but i've never tried lard for my ducks. As said fatty things seem to repel them - but i have not tried this during the cold season…

You are aware that the statistics are against you? - Usually it is 50:50 for the gender. I was lucky this year, having 3 boys and 4 girls, but that could have turned out vice versa or worse…
I would go with some mail-ordered female ducklings in spring.

Yeah but we can hope. We know we won't get all girls but we can hope for as many as we get

:pop Love all these ideas! I like taking my girls and boys some breakfast or late evening snack with the cold weather. One recipe I thought for sure would be a hit, but was a bust... I mixed some cornmeal in with their scrambled eggs...couple pecks at it, but nothing like I expected

I will try some homemade suet cakes.

What about these ingredients...are they ok for some carbs??
Honey
Maple Syrup
Corn syrup
Molasses
Trying to think of some binders for the recipes
