DIY Feeder Successful !!!!

If you're going to put any more than 5-10 pounds of feed or oyster shell in these (if you are making taller feeders) I would either glue the pieces together or plan for some type of support under the feeders. I made the mistake of filling a 4 foot tall feeder with oyster shell and then trying to move it in the coop. The PVC connectors (the 45 degree angle pieces) came off the pipe and we almost had 20 pounds of oyster shell on the coop floor.

This is a great idea. So you can fill up the entire tube, and it wont all come spilling out??

It takes up so much less room than the convention feeder, I really want to try this.

konjo,

Nice job on the tube feeders.

If you put a whole tube feeder full of scratch, will they even eat the good nutrition feed?

I know that my chickens would eat scratch all the time and skip on their crumbles, so that is why I feed them a little scratch out of my hand or toss some on the ground.

Good work,

Hugh

Your right need to see how to implement something like that. I need to think of that..

SC_Hugh
your right about the scratch I just give them some in a bowl in the mornings if not these girls would not get there daily nutrition needed for egg laying.

konjo,
Nice work.. I always liked the PVC feeders. I use them all the time on our goats and sheep for feed and mineral. The ones I make have a Y-pipe at the bottom besides the elbows.
Here is a picture of one I found on line. It is for goats/sheep but I bet it would work for chickens. I might have to make 3 or 4 of the for the chickens and see how they work.

And here is a PDF on how to make one...

I am going to try this. I wonder how many one feeder would feed. I have 13 chickens. Would I need 13 pipes? I love your design. It's well thought out. I would like to see your coop. Thanks for sharing your design.
