Looking around my shed the other day, i found an old metal CD rack - no purpose anymore so here's what i did with it. Cut it in half and press down every other CD shelf, insert a bit of guttering, lash it with wire and put bits of plywood at both ends and hey presto - a feeder! Almost no waste (i think i waste more putting the feed inside the feeder to be honest). I also put a TV dish of over the top to protect from rain.
