Before I get to far on this project, would these holes be too high for day old goslings? It is 3" from the bottom of the container. I'm planning on using it for possibly 8 goslings while in the brooder. Saw this idea on a homesteader video but they didn't give measurements. Just a general idea on how to do it. (The hole is 1 3/8" diameter)

That seems too high, maybe lower it?

Okay 👌. I thought so too. In the video he had a similar container and put the holes above the "line" in it. This is my first time having baby geese so I'm clueless about sizing. This just sounded like a good idea to keep things somewhat dry.

@TwistedTayy , ended up scrapping this one. Tried to put a couple more holes and the side busted out. 🤷 Ruined 2 more containers (I was persistent 🤣) before giving up.
Pulled out an empty gallon jug (Arizona iced tea) and tried it. The holes worked much better.🙌. Only thing is, after they are only 4 days old, the holes already need raised (I took the suggestion and put them lower) Next one will be at the 3 inches. Might have to make the holes a bit bigger also, they can just get their heads through them.
Side note, I used a chick feeder (the kind that uses a jar) for the first couple days until they got their feet and heads under control. 🤣)

The new one with holes approximately 4" from the bottom of the jug is perfect for them 🥰
I’m going to have to rig something like that up. This summer will be my first time raising waterfowl and I got two waterers… one big traditional one and a tiny one meant for chicks or quail I guess. They kept trying to swim in the big one (I know that’s normal) so I took that away but the small one will be obsolete so fast.

I have two goslings in the incubator so on the off chance that only one hatched we got 4 jumbo pekins…. THEN on June 1 we have 15 welsh harlequins coming… so I don’t know how this itty bitty waterer I’m using is going to hold up lol. I caved and ordered an outrageously expensive special “duckling” waterer lol but I’m still gonna have to figure something more out 😂😅

LoL 😂 chicken math works for waterfowl too. My 8 goslings are growing so fast 🙄 They are cohabitating with my meat chicks this week. Can't wait until we get their enclosure built. Although they are loving being outside on grass and running around with the chicks, they are going to outgrow them soon 😂 thankfully when we built the chicken tractor we went oversized and they could stay together without being overcrowded for awhile. It's just the difference between feed needs that has me worried 😟
Chore time. Have a great day 😊

The turkey poults (I have 22 of them) checking out the new neighbors 😆
