DIY Incubator V2.0

That looks great, how is that fishtank thermostat holding? I tried a water heater thermostat but I did not like the 4' variations. I ended up with a waffer that holds to 1'

I have been having about .5 degree swings. I have the same stat on my other incubator (120 volt system) and the only problem I found with it is the knob can easily get bumped and knock it out of range. The soultion I used was once the stat was set where I wanted it, (100.0), I super-glued the knob so it will not turn anymore. I may leave this one though without gluing the knob, and build some sort of cover you have to open to adjust it, so nothing will knock it out of adjustment.

Hopefully this will make it easier to understand and clear up some confusion:

Here's todays creation.. Just click the pic to see it in motion.:

I would have added more shelves, but I only have 3 hens.

I figure I will just put it on a timer where it comes on 3 times a day for like 20 seconds or so. I will try to get the timing so it stops in a different position each time.

I tried the fishtank thermostat. I built one last night and wired to a light. put it in a styro cooler and left it all day today and it never realy moved off 100 degrees. I liked the opperation of it and i think i will use it on the bator im going to build. thanks for the idea

what kind of motor did ya use for the turner?

the motor I used is a 120v (I know, this is supposed to be a 12v system) 2 rpm gear reduction motor. It was one I have had laying around for years, but i'm sure they could be found on E-bay.. lemme go check real quick.

These would get the job done, and are even slower than mine...

Thats basically the same motor I used, just turns slower..

Glad you like the aquarium thermostat. I have been very happy with the ones I have been using on both my bators.

THANK YOU for the wiring schematic! AND the video of your egg-turner!!! I have "saved" these to my own photobucket account for future reference. IF you wish me to remove them, I certainly will.

When you decide in what manner that you will switch the egg-turner on/off, I will be very interested in seeing this solution, also!

This incubator of yours is going to be EXCELLENT, I believe!

P.S. I don't believe it is of any concern that the egg-turner is 120V AC rather than 12 V DC, because most power outages last for a short time and would be insignificant insofar as turning the eggs would be concerned.
