DIY raised duck pond

I think being above ground it will probably drain pretty good. With the tank I have in the ground it clogs up so bad because they fill it with mud from their bills. . it's not just their muck. Plus I get pine shavings in it all the time and they even like to throw rocks in it. :rant

Mine gets clogged too! Usually with feathers or leaves and dirt and poop. I almost wanna take the drain catch out... but then id be worried id have a clog in the pipe. Although i can stick the hose down there to dislodge it... anyway, mine is an above-ground black plastic fish pond with a bathtub type drain and a rubber plug. Its not very pretty, but thats what happens when your dad tries to do something nice for you (and ruins the integrity of your expensive fish pond lol :idunno). Ill have to post pictures later. Its nothing fancy though.

Mine is more than clogged. It's broken
I have to use a electric pump these days and then scoop the rest with a broom and dustpan on a stick.

So I'm getting a stock tank for my pair of geese and due to drainage issues I am very interested in mimicking this set up. How are you liking it so far? Any issues that have come up since you built it? Did you ever post the video of you working on it? Any suggestions on building a ramp and/or teaching the geese how to utilize it to reach the water? I'm so over the kiddie pool...

Hi there, I love it, no issue with it at all! It still drains quickly and easily, a little sand gets in the tub bottom but very little and I have either hosed it towards the drain or just left it in there (sand really helps keep it clean), any little feathers are easy to just remove after the water has drained and I just hose it all down and refill. Ducks have never had any problems getting in and out without a ramp once I had showed them what it was. Sometimes they just fly/jump up to the ledge but most of the time they hop onto the cut logs, usually they either fly out or they hop out onto the ledge and then either fly, jump or use the logs to get down. The chickens like to use it as a watering trough as well. I never got the step by step uploaded to YouTube but I did to my Instagram account @liveoaksfarmhouse , the detailed video is under my highlighted stories, you can skip sections by tapping to the right of the video. If you have any questions I didnt answer either here or my video dont hesitate to DM me on IG which is the best way as I forget to check here or you can ask me here and I'll try to remember to check. It's really very easy and it's worked like a charm. I do have mine covered with a sunshade over it to keep it as cool as possible in the direct sun, I also add a little capful of bleach in the water to cut down on algae with the heat and it helps. Every other time I empty it I give it a quick scrub and it's good to go.
