DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

Well I'm not sure it's an invention but I made a dust bath/play area for the chickens to keep them from messing up the vegetable garden. They love it, they spend like 1/2 the day in that corner now. I filled the brick area with dirt, sand, potting soil and a little DE. The tree is a dead fruit tree that was sitting in the side yard waiting to go out with bulk trash but I kept finding the chickens on it. I know people will sometimes hang heads of cabbage from the top of their run or coop so I plan to do things like that with the tree. I'll tie cabbage or corn cobs from the top branch to make treat time a little more interesting.

Ha that is like a zoo exhibit!! They look very happy! I am still working on branches in our pen for them... don't have anything large like that, and can't go too high, or they might use it to go over the fence!
Too bad on no purple for the drill...
And glad to hear they realized the wrath of a lawsuit was far greater than having you help.

We are BluKoting the Polish crested rooster's head right now, to get his girls to leave his feathers alone as they come in...I sincerely hope today's rain isn't going to wash it all off and ruin our progress! Ugh!

Tools in all forms should definitely be respected! I, knock on wood, have been lucky so far, no major injuries... it was my husband who hammered his finger so hard it swelled twice the size and the nail came off eventually...
I tend to hurt myself and others with simple everyday things: Opening the heavy metal door on my at the time 2 year old's head.... then walking that same 2 year old into a side view mirror- she bounced! (I didn't realize she had grown, evidently.... lol)... Needless to say I am klutzy enough that her first phrase was 'It's okay mommy, keep going,' as I walked her into the walls in the house.. poor girl... still a top student, so must not have done too much damage!

Luckily we have the 5-6ft block wall around our property plus those giant dense bushes that line it and my girls aren't much of fliers so we haven't had any escape attempts yet. I was even able to fashion a "baby gate" that's only like 2 ft high that keeps them from going onto the patio. They're too lazy to even jump over that. LOL

See, that is beautiful. We have a yard like that right around the house, which is where they would go, or to the pastures for horse poop... But our problem is more so the 2 dogs that would get dinner if that happened. The chicken gate flew open the other day...the one dog actually was useful- she managed to scare 8 chickens back in, I did get her called off so she didn't get a snack... the other dog rounded up a bird or two for me as well. Our next dogs will not have some sort of bird dog in them... lol I just feel like I can't trust these 2 fully. When we had just 3 chickens, I let the boy stay out with them, he was fine .... the girl... yeah not so much... Now with 13 tasty walking drumstick meals...

I have a nailgun AND an impact driver (dewalt. black and yellow is the way to go

) I have a husband who gives the BEST christmas presents. I like the impact driver because it's so light, and ever since I had hand surgery I just can't use a heavy power tool for very long. I don't do nailing by hand. I have a habit of hurting myself with the hammer.... I'm hoping to get my new upcycle nestbox painted and post pics this week. It's a bit hob cob but it was free except for the hardware, and works great.

I have fallen for the Ryobi rechargeable battery line. They are almost fluorescent lime green. Love the impact driver! Can't believe it took me so long to discover it! I call the chain saw my "sissy-girl" chainsaw. It cuts big branches, small trees. A friend once told me, "For every project, you get a new power tool. (Even if you don't need a power tool for the project." I haven't quite followed her advice, but too close for my financial health sometimes. I can flat build stuff, though!

My "girlie drill" as I call it is a Makita and my family all loved it so much they used it until it wasn't pretty any more (they are all boys and don't care about that)

So DH and I went to get something different for me (so they wouldn't all use my new girlie drill and loose drill bits and leave it discharged etc)

Well,

I didn't like the other ones as much, I liked mine the best, that is why I bought it the first time. So I bought another but this time bought the matching impact driver that comes in the set above with a cool box to hold my drill bits

So I painted it (and both my new batteries) with nail varnish!
