I use goldfish in my big water tanks to graze on any bug live and any algae that grow on the sides of the horse tank.
Algae is really not a bad character... shows the water is good. I started out with aquarium fish... About an Aeon ago...
. Its jsut a sign that there is organic material in the water to feed the Algae.
A quick scrub with a brush a rise and you are good to go. I dont even bother with my horse water tank... She rinses her mouth after drinking....
the alfalfa/grass particles are good for the gold fish.
I clean that tank about once a year... maybe twice.
The goat water always seemed to stay clean. they arent mouth rinsers and the water was always clear with a bit of algae growing on the sides to feed the gold fish.
I dont put fish in the chicken water... too small of a container. So a scrub with a toilet brush designated for the task... a dump and we are good to go.
