Here is our new coop made from a 12 x 24 sandbox. The coop is 12 x 12. The other half will have our brooder in it. We put in 2 poop boards. We have 7 nest boxes that we can collect eggs from the outside. We made a feeder out of a plastic tote, that can hold over 50 # of feed. Also put in an automatic door on a timer. Hope you enjoy the pictures.





The white PVC pipe by the auto door is for oyster shell.

I like your setup. But don't the chickens make a mess with the tote feeder? Most of the time I see something like that with the opening of the pipe upward.

We used an elbow pointed down so it is around 2" off the bottom of the tub. We haven't seen any feed thrown out.

Are there 2 on the other side also?

Is there something inside the tote so the feed flows towards the elbows when it gets low?

Yes there is 2 on the other side. We would like to put one on each end also. We talked about something inside to keep the feed to hhe holes but have not done that. We just open it up and pile the feed around the openings.

Super nice coop. What did you mean made from a "sand box?"

Well, my wife ran a Daycare. I built a 12 x 24 sandbox for the kids. When she quit watching kids in Dec, we turned it into a coop. All free wood from a barn being taken down. It already had the roof over the sandbox.

How cool to have that large of a sandbox to begin with!!

Haven't made it through the whole thread yet so this may be a repeat:

A simple modification I made to a grow out cage I built for the 4 week old dorkings I had some drawer guides left over from a kitchen remodel job I did so I added it to the top to make a sliding access door. I don't have to have over-head clearance and can place containers on top while I add food and water.
